Mastercraft Maximum router

Hi Snowman - here's about this router. Basically, they managed to get a router made by a reputable manufacturer, as opposed to the junky one. That alone doesn't mean it's a sure thing as far as quality is concerned, but there have been several recommendations (other than my own) for this machine. I ...

Snowman and Sluggo - The one in the flyer is NOT the MC Maximum one. The one on sale is a piece of junk. I'm not a big CT supporter but I think they 'accidentally' got a very good router in the CT Max one.

Hi Sluggo, I haven't been by here for a year or more and thought I'd stop in and peruse the forum and happened upon your thread. I'd strongly suggest a third choice in your router hunt. A year ago or so I bought the Mastercraft Maximum Fixed/Plunge router from Cdn Tire and have been really happy wit...

I haven't been here for quite a while, and just thought I'd pop in and this was the first post I opened - glad I started here - what a beauty you've made. A real classic. Those cherry seats must look awsome in person.

Cheers,
Kerry

Pete - if you're going to bury the bolt heads in the gunnels and plug the hole, this might interest you:

Having only built the one canoe, I hate to disagree with those more experienced, but I cracked two ends of my ash outwales bending them as-is when fitting them to my 16' Bobs Special. Mine were also tapered to about 3/8" at the ends. When I do my next one, I'll be steaming them, or trying the h...

Looks great Bryan. How did you accomplish the lighter coloured section at the bow? Are they just strips of different wood? I only ask because I can't see any definition of strips in the picture. If strips, are they just butted at an angle to the edge of the cedar strips? Again, very nice and congrat...

That was something I was thinking of asking as well about my Bob's. I tried sitting 'reverse' on the bow seat and paddling solo, but I found it to be REALLY hard to go anywhere close to straight. I got out a bit into a lake, took forever to turn around, and then slowly worked my way back - I haven't...

Bryan - is that a roller that has sort of 'dull blades' that go right around the perimeter, the whole length of the roller? Seems to me I recal something like that from back when I used fibreglass with polyester resin 20 years ago. I had forgotten about that tool until you mentioned this. I couldn't...

Hi Moonman, I countersunk them, so they look like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v94/zoneshot/Wood%20Projects/Canoe/P1060197.jpg I used African blackwood plugs over the bolts. Sorry if I misunderstood your inquiry - what type of pic were you looking for? Or, were you thinking that I was goi...

Hey, that boat looks familiar! :laughing

Good work, it looks great! :applause

Did you happen to weigh it? I was very pleased with mine coming in at 58lbs (according to the bathroom scale anyway). I was just curious how normal that is.

Again, nice work.

Well, my plans are in, did a whole bunch of reading, and I must say holy cow!. I sure don't remember hardly any of this STUFF. After reading many many posts, canoe craft book, I get the feeling that this kind of project is not forgiving at all, and everything has to be perfect to the 32'nd of an in...
