If your garage is mostly water tight, ie. no puddles from rain or whatnot, try putting those Dry-Z-Aire things around the garage.

It's calcium cloride and soaks up humidity. Although you'd probably need at least 4 of them.

Recycled Wood

I work for a japanese company and I see all kinds of beautiful wood used in shipping crates and pallets. I just disassembled several oak pallets tonight. Less than half of it will be any good for canoe parts, but the rest I can make clamps out of. Question: is the wood any weaker with nail holes in ...

Looks like my table saw is actually only a 7 1/2 inch one. But she will do. The blade shaft is all tore up because the previous owner was running it without a shaft/pulley wheel key, but I think if I put a key in there it will tighten it up nice and balanced, as long as the bearings are ok. If not, ...

Thanks for the tips! They make great sense! I think I will try a couploe different fences, but not have them go far beyond the blade. I like the 1/8 of inch space idea and I can make the board tall enough to accept a top featherboard as well. Nice!

Hmmm, page 68 "Finally, the epoxy should cure with good clarity, adding no objectionabletint to the wood. One brand was fine over dark planking but turned Sitka spruce and ugly greenish-yellow." that is the epoxy that I don't want! :wink anyone know which one tht is? I wonder what Sitka sp...

I read it in Canoecraft and don't want to make that mistake.

I run a water treatment plant and a lot of times I have to make quick repairs on PVC. In these situations, I have to remove pipe from fitting without ruining the integrity of the fitting. If i heat the pipe in order to remove it just enough that it makes the glue soft and doesn't heat up the fitting...

IF the canoe/kayak sticks to the pipe isulation on your racks and tears it, you can cover the pipe insulation with those rarely used nylon dress socks and "dress" up the racks as well as protect your boat.

Works for my surfboards, I'm sure it would be OK for gunwales.

Are you guys putting keels on your Bob's?

Just curious because this looks like the boat for me. But I want to go keelless.

16 foot, mostly single person, sometimes two

Fishing sometimes and paddling in all kinds of conditions except heavy whitewater.

Wow, a disc sander on the table saw is a great idea! I may be able to fit a 10" through the orifice. Not sure. The link belt sounds like a great idea. It's only a 1/2 horse motor, but it is HUGE and hopefully smooth. IF it gets hot, I'll shut it off for a while. A canoe freind in WA suggested t...

Saw Blades

Hi All,

I just rented a garage and am in the process of setting up shop.

I found a neat old Delta Milwaukee table saw for cheap. It's got a 9" blade on it that looks brand new.

Does anyone have advice on a smooth cutting blade for ripping strips?

Thanks.
