Many builders epoxy cleats to the inside of the hull. to attach the seat
I don't have a pic to show. Seems like Cruiser did that ?
You will want to be pretty sure of where you want your seats located !
search" Seat Cleats", here.

Re: New Solo Canoe - Freedom 15'3" and 16'2"
I've always set the center of the middle form over the center mark. Then from the face of either side of the center form, I measure, to the far face on the next form. On your build measure and set the forms 12.75" from face to face. The fact you are using 1/2" thick forms makes no differen...

Re: Cottage Cruiser vs Prospector
I'm with Brian.
Kinda like asking a station wagon, to enter a a stock car race !
You will enjoy a dedicated solo, so much more !
In my younger day I paddled a 17' Aluminum all the time. After building my first dedicated solo ? The aluminum stayed on the rack !

Re: Epoxy issue
I agree with Cruiser. Mix ratio, could be off. Did you use pumps ? Or improper mixing, basically not long enough. Betting the mix ratio is the problem. The Fix ? If you can pull the cloth ? I'd pull it. Scrape as much of the resin out as possible. Hit it with Acetone ( Wear a Filtered mask, made to ...

Re: Butchered the strips that attach to stem near keel
Patching in slivers to fill gaps is not a Sin.
As Brian states, a pic would tell more ?
Keep the faith ! You can make it work. The first is always a big learning experience. The next will be much better !

Yes ! Sorry I omitted the decks they too are glued and screwed.
I actually fit the decks first, then fit the inwhales.

Re: Attaching decks & outwales - opinions?
There is a neat tool called "Dragon's Teeth" Used to keep the clamps from sliding off the ends. Here is a pic, that should illustrate their use. The red is the Dragon's Teeth. The Teeth are covered with tape to keep from being glued permanently to the hull ! Very important ! https://hostin...

Re: Attaching decks & outwales - opinions?
I fall into the glue and screw my Inwhales, and glue my Outwhales faction. I prefit my inwhales and mount with screws. Remove screws, and add epoxy, to the inwhales, then screw the inwhales back in place. No worries about anything slipping out of alignment. Once the screws are in place ? I just lei...

Re: epoxying hull before fiberglassing
It just so happens while replacing the glass, on the outside of a friends canoe ( Polyester resin) I had the same problem ! I pulled off a divot, maybe an 1/8" deep. After I had all the old glass off, I found about six spots that needed filling. The deepest, I wetted six patches of scrap cloth,...

Re: Inwale/outwale scarf joint location
A good scarf is as good as the wood itself. So where they are is optional. I stagger the inwhale and outwhale scarf joins more for looks. On a few, because of the amount of wood, I placed the inwhale scarf between the seat rails. If the wood matches, and you do a good job, it's not that visible. I u...

I agree with Cruiser, that the Acetone could have reacted with the cloth.
My wife's finger nail polish remover has Acetone in it ! Scary stuff !
I'm sure you will enjoy the canoe just as much !

Re: discoloring of wood after fiberglassing
It appears to me that something was wiped on the hull, prior to wetting out. At this point I would either live with it, or paint the hull. Sad to see that happened ! I would not use Acetone on bare wood. You could have loosened the glue with it. I don't use water either. just blow the dust and wet o...

Re: New build.. first time !
It will make little difference either way.
Once the hull is glassed, everything will need to be trimmed to Fair.
So if you start your strips low, it will give you more room to play with, when it comes time to trim the Shear line to Fair.

The most common method is Shrink wrapping them.
