I also use a Freud Diablo 7 1/4" diameter blade, but not the same one Glen mentioned. Mine is gold colored, and I think the model is DO724. It is very thin - less than 1/16" - and cost about $8 Cdn. It works great. I just cut some 3/16" strips off the edge of a 6/4 maple plank last we...

An empty garage? What's that? :D Sounds like a blank canvas to me. I don't recall a bench described in Kayakcraft, but there are dozens of plans for workbenches around on the net, from very simple, to fine furniture. Do a google search for "workbench plans" and you'll see what I mean. Ther...

OK, I'll have a go at it, although I've only one boat under my belt, and the varnish hasn't been on very long. When you apply filler coats, the weave pattern of the glass can telegraph upward with each coat, so even though it might look like you're about to cut into the glass during sanding, it ain'...

Steve in Kazoo;

Noah's Marine carries some IF products. Not sure if they carry all of it. They sell on both sides of the border.

I also used a table-saw sanding disk, as Steve suggested. It works great, not only for finishing the edges of forms, but also for making accurate, repeatable bevels when scarphing strips (with a piece of scrap clamped down for a guide, of course). Takes about 5 seconds per strip.

I've used the tissue paper technique for black-only images, and it works pretty well, but I've heard that colors will fade more quickly in the sun. Erich - have you experienced this?

Don't assume that a seal-coat will prevent offgassing during glass application. It ain't necessarily so. If you do choose to do a seal coat, and you are working in uncontrolled temperatures (ie. an unheated garage), you should still wait until late afternoon or evening, when temperatures are droppin...

Endeavour cockpit & hatches

Hi Derek; My first kayak (and only one so far, but that will soon change) is an Endeavor. As GC said, the shapes and dimensions of the cockpit and hatches are entirely up to you. My cockpit is an egg-shape about 17” wide at its widest point, and about 31” long. I’m 6’5”, and the cockpit is recessed,...
