Fair enough. I used epoxy and wood flour for the outside "stems" of the kayak I built and I agree that it is a good method to use.

inexpensive and easy to find hardwood in Vancouver (PNW)?
I'm trying to get a handle on project costs for a 17' Freedom, and it looks like a significant amount may be spent on hardwood for the stems, gunwales, thwarts, etc. What hardwoods should I consider, given that I live in Vancouver BC? Hello, I took the offsets from CanoeCraft and put them into my CAD program. I then drew a spline through the points. Stations 7, 8, and 9 each ended up with a couple of areas where the form outline looks a bit odd to me. I've saved the outlines as pdf files which you can download if you're intereste...
