Gufer ... I also made my scarfs "through the thickness" ... and I also used a sanding disk on the table-saw ... but rather than a sliding sled, I just clamped a guide fence (a scrap 2x2) at an angle to the disk, and fed the strips in along the fence, then pulled them back when done ... cle...

Ditto ... I also fit the strip/glass bulkhead panels a little loose, and used silicone to fill the ~1/8" gap ... I didn't use backer blocks, but for my front bulkhead, which serves double-duty as my footbrace, I did reinforce the silicone fillet with glass & epoxy for additional strength .....

Isn't eastern red cedar also known as aromatic cedar? I've used some for lining a closet, but not in the boats. From what I've seen, doesn't flex anywhere near as nicely as WRC. The shop would smell nice, though, and you'd have no moths.

I thought it must be 4" ... I used 3" slab from Noah's in Toronto, and I probably paid more than you ... that's a good deal. I saw one of Joe's custom seats in an Outer Island this past weekend ... he does a nice job, and apparently he's fast ... customizes to fit most common hull-shapes, ...

Chalk up another vote for the sculpted foam seats ... I am very happy with mine ... never any numbness or discomfort ... I think I also used the OneOcean instructions, though I can't quite remember.

Bryan ... how thick is that slab? It looks thicker than what I used.
