These are the common problems that most builders seem to have with Fibreglass/Epoxy. Sand, fill, smooth out- do what you have to. I am building two more boats this spring/summer/fall, 16' prospectors. I am going to utilize fibreglass/epoxy only as needed . I find it so frustrating to work with. Mess...

Been there and done that- twice now. I think this has got to be the biggest disadvantage of the fiberglass/epoxy method. Sand and scrape- patch and smooth. Don't expect perfection either- it does not exist. Trust me, you will not notice the things you see now when you are enjoying time on the water ...

Took her out this morning. This was the first time I have been in a Kayak in about 12 years. So I started nice and easy in shallow waters on Lac LeMay in Hull. I was impressed by the handling, stability and speed. The hull design seems superior in these aspects. I also liked being low and close to t...

Paint
Painting over our Wooden Boats. What do you think?
Any discussion to go along with your choice. I have found this to be a somewhat charged topic among some builders.

4 oz glass this time around (For Kayak)
Getting ready to do the glass job on the Kayak soon. Just need to make the time now. I am hoping spreading the epoxy on this 4 oz glass will be much easier (and smoother) than working with the 10 oz glass I was using for the seems. I used 6oz on the Canoe and it seemed to go well. Still on target fo...

Last Tuesday my car had several tonnes of snow fall on it from a high steel roof. Looks like it might be a total loss. Hood, roof, and passenger side all severly crushed in. Windsheild destroyed as well. Possible structural damage to the frame as well. On the bright side- it just missed us by about ...

Painting is always an option, and the results can be very nice. I am unsure why there is sometimes such strong opposistion to doing this? If you do choose to paint, use a good quality scratch resistant paint. I used a red latex formulated for outdoor use on wood- It came out nice, however the paint ...

Sanding Question
I am in the process of "cleaning up" my boat prior to the first major glassing. As you know I have had issues with the seams and now find a mess of hard epoxy droplets at places on the hull. I plan to scrape and sand these away. - in the case of sanding what grit would you reccomend? I am ...
