Need clamping idea for feature strip
I need to glue up the feature strips and don't know how to clamp it. The strips are 3/8" thick and 16 feet long right now. I need to glue the halves up to make the diamond shape before planning it to 1/4". Any brilliant ideas on how to clamp it up along the entire 16' length? http://i87.ph...

Stem construction question
I plan on using thinner ~1/8" laminations on my stems and not steaming them. I've used similar techniques with a rocker before and had good success with it. Is there any reason this technique will be bad for my canoe? I'd like to make the outer stem out of alternating 1/8" laminations of w...

Re: Newbie
Sue, check out this link http://www.titebond.com/download/pdf/ww/GlueGuideTB.pdf
It shows that only Titebond Original is Aliphatic Resin like you requested. I'm using this glue to build my first canoe but I've used it for years in other woodworking projects.

Re: Newbie
from Titebond website In 1955, Franklin again set the standard with the development of the first aliphatic resin glue, Titebond Original Wood Glue. Titebond II Premium Wood Glue (1991) was the first one-part Type II water-resistant glue. Franklin International is proud to continue our tradition of e...

Re: Is this a problem?
I'll answer my own post. I called Bear Mountain and they're shipping me out a new set of plans. They said they'd check them before they went out to verify them..
All I can say is they deliver great customer service!!! Nice to do business with people like this.

Is this a problem?
I'm getting ready to trace the Ranger 15 station molds onto my forms and found the plans are not quite actual size. The 21" dimension shows on the 1:1 plan actually measures 20 15/16". I checked page 1 (top/side views) which is supposed to be 1.5":1' and it's also about 1/16" off...

I'd pry it open some and put in a spacer, I bet you'll be able to move a little more each day until you can finally get the forms in it.

My arms are sore
Weather cleared long enough to rip ~3/8" rough strips for the Ranger. They'll get drum sanded to 1/4" but I want to scarf them first. Here they are; 1248ft of strips. My arms are sore and tired. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k154/wb9tpg/Canoe%20build%20a%20long/DSC01823.jpg Each strip ...

I'm at the exact same stage of construction as you are and will be interested in the answers you get. I am planning to scarf my strips too. Good luck

Strongback complete
Completed the strongback this weekend. I put wheels on it so I could move it in and out of the shop to allow working outside in nice weather. I used winding sticks (pictured) to verify there is no twist. The camera lens distorts the image a little. I think it'll work well for me. I'm going to use it...
