Re: Raptor Staples

Take what I have to say with a BIG grain of Salt, I went staple-less, and am quite happy with the results. There are a few areas where I had the Dickens of a time getting the strips to comply with my wishes, but I am married with two kids, so I am kind of used to that. :sad I will say that once I sm...

Re: Minor Freedom 17'9" update

Yup, definitely needed to tip the surface with a brush. It picked up a lot of dust somehow, but that is a MUCH easier issue to deal with than the drips and voids.

Cheers,

Re: Minor Freedom 17'9" update

Recoated the sanded 3rd coat yesterday, MUCH better results, I can deal with the odd bubble and dust particle. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Qf6UXDCWeBU/U-jJph0HEgI/AAAAAAAAH5M/N7ATqAYZEhI/s800/2014-08-10_15-12-15_5.jpg https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2wjyNLv8wtU/U-jJmiUUwAI/AAAAAAAAH48/y4Ix...

Re: Poor 3rd Coat

Unfortunately, no photos of the patches yet, still recovering from the all nighter. :sleepy The patches are in some areas just missed 3rd coat sections and other areas are where the impression of the weave is still noticable on the surface of the epoxy. I was brushing and squeegieing. I am less conc...

Poor 3rd Coat

Looking very patchy.

Going to scrape the runs, then sand the whole surface.

Do I patch the bad spots, or recoat the whole canoe?

Re: Getting Ready to Glass - Keel Questions

Thanks Rod, The keel will taper on top of the outer stems, I was curious as to how to make the brass stem band flow onto the keel. I should probably end it at the end of the 16" taper (if possible). Should I wax the brass screws if I intend to keep them? In case I need to replace the keel at so...

Getting Ready to Glass - Keel Questions

I received my keel and notice that the supplied instructions are very different from those in Canoecraft. As opposed to shaping the keel to a 3/8" taper, the supplied instructions state to keep the keel at 1", and round off the corners. Another difference shows that the keel is installed a...

Re: Shaping inner stems...Michne stick question

My forms warped HORRIBLY, I wish I had gone with MDF instead of 1/2" ply.

I corrected the issue with crossbracing EVERY form, one reason I am still on this project after 2 years...
