I used the "standard" BMB strongback. No problems what-so-ever. Good luck!!!!...Juneaudave

I've had several people look closely (very closely) at my Rice Lake (with a red painted bottom) and ask how I mated the ceder strip top to the fiberglass bottom!!! The reality is that, with some care, the painted surface transitions so nicely, most people really can't tell. And the marine paints ove...

Mike...that probably depends on what is acceptable to you. Most likely others won't notice.

Personnally, I wouldn't rely on the glass smoothing things out. Sanding the inside is tough on any canoe. A good scraper really helps, even if you have already got the inside in pretty good shape.

The Port Orford I used was clear and colored a light tan. It was significantly harder and more impact resistant than WRC, but very easy to work. The accent stripe is Port orford between two strips of mahogany. The gunnel has Port Orford sandwiching a strip of mahogany, the deck is cherry with the Po...

Ray...Where are you located at and how much are you looking for? You can get clear Alaska yellow cedar in pretty long lengths, but it can get really expensive if it is special order and needs to be shipped. Unless you live in Alaska, or the Pacific Northwest....I'm not sure... I will say, I've had s...

As I recall, that 5200 is pretty much an adhesive and may be a mess when and if you ever want to replace the gunwales. Have you thought about using a bedding compound and screwing on the gunwales?

I tried the water putty mix on one of my boats and had a real hard time with matching colors. It most certainly can be done, but I find thickened epoxy to be much easier to use....Juneaudave

Lot's of Redbird builders on this BBS...I think its a very classic look and everyone that has built one likes to paddle it. I personally have the Bob's Special. My wife and I like it to just knock around. Good stability, a bit shorter and lighter than the 17 ft Redbird, a little easier to build, etc...

Glen's instructions are spot on...you are actually going to cut a mortice to accept the outer stem. Like Glen says.... keep stripping up till you hit a point where the two sides of the hull and the inner stem are the width of your outer stem... then begin to miter the ends of the strips together (as...
