the thing is, he has over 30,000 board feet of cedar he wants to put to use... although this mini stripper wont put much of a dent in his stockpile!!

He just bought the bead and cove bits, and this project will be a bit of a test to see if he can offer some to boat builders.

small canoe designe?

a freind wants to build a small canoe, for an 8 year old kid to "play" with. he is thinking of shrinking a full size plan down to half size. I wonder if there is a proper set of plans for a mini boat.

Thanks.

never really thought about keeping the darnd deck in place while epoxy set... hmmm some clamped wood under the gunnel might be the only way... as far as the dragons teeth, i guess that getting the "flats" where your clamp will sit are not critical... i was just going to glue up some scraps...

Finish the scuppers with oil or varnish? i will be varnishing the hull and oilling the gunnels, so either will probably work... IF oil is ok over epoxy??

I was just going to epoxy the decks in place. so if that is all that matters i may as well go ahead with outwales.

outwales and decks installation question

i have my inwales installed, and am waiting the use of a freinds shop and knowledge to make the decks. is there any reason i cannot go ahead and install the outwales? i would of coarse spread the hull amidship to the correct width. this would then also allow me to cut my seats and thwarts percisly t...

Just an update for everyones info, I was able to find two local suppliers of Silicon Bronze hardware in Ontario. Fastenall Canada carries them, but for a 5" carriage bolt they wanted 26$, i was able to buy 5" 1/4-20 carriage bolts from Pacific Fasteners (27 Chauncey Ave, Toronto, ON PH: 41...

apparently this is a result of over soaking. some recomend soaking for hours, this i was told is completely wrong. 15 minutes in hot water, then remove it, shake it out very vigurously then seal in a ziplock bag, out of direct sunlight for 20 minutes.

I was able to return the rawhide, and i re-ordered it from a much better supplier. Its not so much the width that got me upset, or the fact that i had to joint it. Its the fact that they did not give me what i paid for.

New stuff will be in next week :big grin

Dennis, It sounds to me like you have four adults, not really two adults and two kids. I just finished the hull of my freedom 17. I am tripping (3-7 day trips) with my wife and two kids (4 and 1 - combined 5' tall and 60lbs!!!) as i stand and look at the hull, its not much larger than my prospector ...

I ordered 3/8" rawhide from a local distributor, it arrived yesterday. I am very dissapointed. :sad I ordered two 100' lengths, to ensure that i could have single lengths with no joints, but there are spots that are so thin i think i will have to cut them out and make joints anyway. The larger ...
