hardware & mounting seats/thwarts/yolk question

I have seen boats with two bolts per thwart, and some with four bolts per thwart... do you need two? if the end of the thwart is only 2" wide i dont want holes to close to the edge... splitting cracking etc... For the hardware itself, is silicon bronze the only way to go? Ron Frenett of canadia...

Do you pin the joint after the inital epoxy or glue has set, or would you dry fit the joint, drill for the peg and then glue it all in one go?

I spoke with Tom (the inventor and producer of the saddle seat), and though i would share the info. This seat is designed for bow or solo due to how low it sits in the canoe, and how wide it is. it is designed more for use in the kneeling position, although Tom said it would be plenty strong for use...

so i have my hull glassed inside and out. i am wating for a replacement inwale, i have two outwales and one inwale. I will be oil rubbing my gunnels and decks. I need to varnish my hull. so should i - varnish the hull, masking off the gunnel locations. then... - oil rub the gunnels except the contac...

mortise and tennon joint for seats... details pls!

Hi all Oh... so so many questions. how deep should the mortise in the seats be? i will use 3/4" x 1 1/2" material (seems standard.). should i be using epoxy to glue the seats? Thanks oh and also... before i oil my gunnels and yolk, and varnish my seats and thwarts, should i be sealing the ...

those are nice thwarts, look fairly standard with an inlay. Does anyone know what a woodsong canoe is worth $$ ?? i have wondered this many times, i am guessing that i will be :shocked shocked!

It is not epoxied to the hull. Here is the problem, the piece is too short to create this 6" long scarf joint. i bent the piece with all of my strenght and it broke at the butt joint. so here is what i am wondering... its in a very low stress area, about 24-30" away from any thwart, seat e...

thanks Glen! What exactly do you mean buy "dont expect to much of it"?? does that mean, dont expect it to last many years? if so, i would most certainly re-do it properly! it will not be overly stressed, the boat is a freedom 17 and it is near the bow. its quite flat. oh, reafirmed by hoz....

:crying - oh geeze... where is my head? I dont konw if this project is suffering because of my working when tired in the evening or what... but any way. When measuring and cutting my inwales, i cut on someone elses mark on the wrong face of the gunnel... leaving it about... oh about... :sealed lips ...

Thanks for everyones help! I ended up using a single spreader in the centre. the hull was already quite close, id say within 1/4" so the spreader didnt do much. but now the hull is bang on, the spreader does nothing. although if i move the cradles, it will flex the hull, so proper placement of ...
