Re: Twisted Stems

Why not make another stem mold and make a new inner and outer stem. You can discard the inner stem. You really don't have to glue the inner stem either.

Re: Alignment of upper and lower centerlines

Not sure the direction it's out but I'm guessing a twist. Search for "winding sticks" which you can use to see how much twist is in your strongback. I use them when I make torsion boxes which is what a strongback is.

Scarf Orientation Question

This is a dumb question but I see pictures on this site of people doing it both ways. Which direction should I scarf my strips? I understand the sheer strip under the gunwales is hidden and it does not matter. I'm interested in the rest of the strips. I've decided to scarf rather than use butt joint...

I don't know enough about your project to say yes or no but I do intend on using Original Titebond for planking the Ranger I'm starting. The main reason is it's easy to clean up and it's covered by fiberglass and epoxy so it does not need to be waterproof.

Glue for Laminations

As I'm new here, I'm a little surprised reading some people use Titebond for bent wood lamination. I took a class in Maloof style rockers and the rockers we make were laminated. Titebond III only has a open time of 10 minutes per the manufacturer. It also has the lowest min (application) temp if that matters to you. It is the hardest to clean up if as well Link Original Titebond - 5 Minute open time; 50 degrees min temp Titebond II - 5 Minute open time; 55 degrees min temp ...

A 10" band saw (usually 1/2 hp) may not have enough power for sustained cutting of 3/4" stock unless the feed rate is SLOW and you use the right blade. You'd be best with a 3/8" or 1/2" blade on it Searching around, it looks like some Jet 10" band saws have Carter guides (ba...

Hello everyone

This is my first post. My name is Gary and I live in central Kentucky. I've been a woodworker for a long time and have picked building a canoe for this years big project. Last year I made a bunch of cabinets for the wife and got real tired of them by the end of summer. This year is a project for me ...
