Re: Paddle from strips?

Those are some good looking paddles! Thank for the quick reply Randy, I was aware of the bird's mouth building style (i think thats what its called) and how that makes some pretty light paddles. I wanted to do a laminate one because I kind of like the "striped" look down the center of the ...

Paddle from strips?

I feel I may already know the answer to this but I'll ask anyway. I have a bunch of strips left over from my canoe build; basswood, walnut, and cedar. I want to build a bent shaft paddle. My strips are too narrow to laminate just using one strip. Would I be able to glue two strips side by side to gi...

Re: Best order for my last few steps?

Good call on the sanding issue, but I'm a special case. I'm building in an apartment complex, in a one car garage. Strongback is on wheels, so I typically do my sanding outside of the garage with the door closed so the dust (for the most part) stays out of the "shop". Good call too on chec...

Re: Best order for my last few steps?

Thanks for the advice! Guess I'll be revising my plan, but thats what I came looking for so thats ok! I've coated the bottom (inside facing edge) and sides of my decks with epoxy to seal those. I'm in the process of epoxying the "boat facing" side of my outwales before attaching those, so ...

Best order for my last few steps?

Being a first timer, I'm at a small point of confusion on the best order of my last remaining steps to finish up my boat. As she sits right now, the inwales are attached and the inside of the hull is sanded and ready for varnish. My seats are finished completely, ready to be hung. Yoke needs 2 more ...

How bad is the glare?

Howdy folks! I'm at the stage of prepping/sanding the inside of the hull to start varnishing. I have Epifanes high gloss, and everything came out fine with my seats but I did notice they SHINE in the sun! Took one outside after I finished caning it just to see if I had any sneaky runs or anything I ...

Re: Where to get plastic cane?

So the stuff showed up in the mail today, wooohoo! Having never laid eyes on real cane vs plastic cane, this stuff sure looks like "natural" even though on the order form is says plastic cane. Is that standard? I really had zero ideas on what it was supposed to look like, nor do i have any...

Where to get plastic cane?

I hate to have my first post be a question, but i'm stuck! I've browsed through every page on this forum, twice. So much good information here!! I'm in the process of a build and I have my seats ready to cane. I have the 1/4" holes, so per many pages I've seen I need 3.0mm cane. As so many have...
