Re: New Solo Canoe - Freedom 15'3" and 16'2"

Just to clarify this a bit, since the canoe curves end to end, the strips actually only touch 1 corner of each mold ,,, except the center mold where it will lay pretty well flat across the mold.

Re: Cottage Cruiser vs Prospector

Hi Bill, The issue you are facing is a common one, as Jim put it, it's like entering a station wagon in a stock car race or taking the stock car to Home Depot. Maybe put the usage in perspective, tally up the number of each type of trips you've taken in the last few years and then consider whether a...

Re: Cottage Cruiser vs Prospector

Hi Bill, If you like the current Prospector, what is the reasoning for replacing (or are you planning second boat)? Having asked that, there are boats that excel at being a 2 person tripping boat and there are boats that excel at being a 1 person tripping boat ... there aren't really any boats that ...

Re: Epoxy issue

I looked and you are right, the board just migrated to this software, my understanding is that it is a lot more up to date than the previous version .... so those sorts of functions make sense ... thanks again

Re: Track saw centerline

Given the importance and chance of something going wrong with power tools ... I just take my time with doing it by hand.

Re: Epoxy issue

One suggestion, although it won't fix this issue, but does add some assurance going forward. Save the containers you mix the epoxy in each time, check them in the morning to make sure the epoxy has set hard. It's a ritual for me now, when I use epoxy, I set the containers aside (there is always a li...

Re: Butchered the strips that attach to stem near keel

An alternative would be to leave the stem a bit wider and fit it that way. If you have already trimmed the stem with a taper, then consider leveling those areas affected and gluing in pieces that are a near match. Then do your slot preparation, which will cut away a lot of the "fix" and on...

Re: Butchered the strips that attach to stem near keel

Hi Bill, The pic isn't showing up for me, so that makes things a little harder to help. While you sort out the pic issue, I will give you a link to my last build and how CanoeCraft handles those stem areas https://www.canoetripping.net/threads/light-weight-solo-tripper-build.105054/page-4 starting a...

Re: Stem Springback off the form after Lamination

Up to 30% springback isn't unusual for steam bent wood. Once it gets glued up that is no longer be an issue, it will take the shape of the mold and hold.

Re: Steaming gunwales

I doubt you would do much damage , but you could just take a left over strip and place it between the gunnel and sheer to act as an insulator until it cools.

Not sure why they haven't dealt with this ElisMoss, it is obviously some sort of troll on the board ....

This doesn't seem to have a place in a canoe forum
