Scuppers
Hi Denis, Yes, thanks. I followed the advice as best as possible. I precut the cloth, dropped it into the canoe and worked it up to the stems. Then I applied the epoxy about 18ins from the stern stem and worked the epoxy, by dabbing action to a couple of inches from the stems. from there I used a &qu...

Scuppers
Hi all, Please can anyone tell me is there any hard and fast law or rule, when it cames to cutting the scuppers in the inner gunwales, bearing in mind the placements for seats and centre thwart ? I`ve just finished fibreglassing the inside of my canoe.Certainly not as easy as the outside hull fibreg...

Gunwales
When the gunwales are scarf joined at a 7:1 setting, how are the gunwales then fitted to the hull --- looking down from a plan view perspective is the full length of the 7in join in view or the 7/8in line on the ajacent side?
Thanks for all replys. Must upload some pics soon.

Fiberglass to inner stem
Thanks again for the input. Looking at the website Glen has shown me and looking at what you have shown me Denis, I think I can come to a compramise and hopefully end up with a reasonably good job. I`ll post some pics once the work is done. Oh, one more question. Have either of you ever used Oroko h...

Fibreglass to inside stems
Thank you Glen.
As always you always come up with an answer or point one in the right direction.
And now to get some glassing done---,
Thanks again.

Cutting Fibreglass To Inner Stems
I wonder why when Ted Moores says to cut the cloth 4ins short of the inner stems that the cloth still actually goes up to and against the sides of the stems? I`m missing something here or not reading the passage properly. After more than a year of "slow" work I`ve come to a stage where I c...

Seats and yoks
Like you I also purchased seats and yoke from Newfound Woodworks and paused over the same question. I did eventually sand back and revarnished, 3 coats.
It all looks good. But I may not use them as I would prefer to make my own, using these as templates.

Fibreglass width
I had to buy my fibreglass from Newfound Woodworks, could`nt get it anywhere in Britain or Ireland in 60in widths. I got my Epoxy from Rob Hewitt in England. He manufactures his own epoxy, sell it to the marine industry etc.http://www.epoxy-resins.co.uk/ He also supplies fibreglas but ,alas, not the...

Runs
Thanks for the replys guys. I`ve managed to eliminate runs by using the tip off method. But this has me anchored with the canoe for up to 2 hours after each coat application. I use this method for each coat.I just thought there might be a shortcut. Oh well, it has to look good does`nt it. Thanks aga...

"Runs" A wee question ?
When the inevitable "run" appears is it ok to leave it untill the final coat of epoxy has cured and you sand for the varnish coat. Will this take it away or will the "run" still show underneath, say for example if it occured in the first coat ( just to exagerate the problem). Thi...

tordated stems
I had a similar problem when trying to attach my outer stems to the inner. There was a gap of 3/4" at one end, on both stems.Only by using G clamps and ratchet cables was I able to marry the full lengths of the stems together after applying a good, thick coat of epoxy glue. I left it to cure fo...
