Nails
Hi all. This is my first boat build and I want ti to look as good as possible when completed. Now the thing is that as I turn the bilge area the strips are getting more difficult to lay flat against the forms especially in those areas where the hull takes on a "cheeked" appearance. What I`...

Brush cleaning
Doug,
You mentioned "foam" brushes. I can`t say for sure I`ve ever seen one. Never had reason to use one I suppose. You recomend this type for applying varnish ?

Brush Cleaning
Yes I`ve tried the vinegar method but the result I thought was harder to achieve than with the restorer. Mind you it`s always something to fall back on in an emergency ---- especiall if one of my friends come around to "look", with a bag of French fries in his hand.

form/strip gap
Thanks for the advice both of you. I`ve packed out the gap on three strips and will take it one strip at a time to keep things right. It turned out afterall that the form is measuring 1/8" on one side. How I could have made such a blunder I don`t know. But the proof is there, I did make a boob....

Plank/ form gap
I`ve hit a bit of a problem. I`ve put on my first three WRC strips and one maple strip and all looks good ---- except at the form before that which supports the stem form. Now when I lool along the lines of the canoe, all four sides at this point do a slight incurve. Thats OK, except on one side whe...

Brush cleaning
I know that a lot of you guys don`t go in for brush cleaning, it`s too messy and takes up too much time etc. But I just finished laminating the stems of my ( first ) canoe and with a few minutes work cleaned the brush thoroughly. After the lamination, bending the stems etc., I removed the excess epo...

Stem bending
I used your suggestion of using an extra strip and it worked well. All the strips survived the experience ant the extra outside strip absorbed the pressure and marks from the clamps. I can be a wee bit heavy handed at times.

Stem "Spring"
I`ve just finished laminating the stems for my 16ft Abenaki. When I released the clamps the stems actually sprang out about an inch, from the true shape of the stem form. ie, if I hold the stem in its proper position along the top of the stem form ( the bottom of the boat ) the other end will come aw...

What type of solvent would you recomend to get epoxy cleaned off brushes and rollers. Does it depend on the epoxy used or is there a ferly "standard" type I could use?
Thanks for any replys.

Hi. Here in N. Ireland the only epoxy I can get within 50 miles is SP Epoxy. Now I`ve heard the term " blushing " and would love to know exactyl what it meant.I know it`s something to avoid and would love to know ifthe SP epoxy is prone to blushing.

Initial epoxy coat.
I`m building 16ft Abenaki, plans from Newfound Woodworks. This is my first effort.I`m following Ted Moores Canoecraft for instruction.Yet he doesn`t say anything about applying an initial coat of resin to the hull before applying the fibreglass unlike some other builders who say that this is a must. ...
