endeavour in the water

Finnaly got the kayak in the water this past weekend for its first paddle. It sure seems much more stable for me as compared to the venture. This one I built for my wife , was planning on a true north for me but am wondering if an endeavour with a large cockpit might do, hmm.. But it is so much fun ...

Yes and no. I have used them on a 1/2 canoe shelf I built , worked great but I have not used them on any actual canoe build. I don't know what it would look like under epoxy. I use epoxy and sanding dust for filler .

There have been canoes built this way, but you would not have to strip a complete mold. Just enough strips to bend ribs on..Strip built molds are used to build with kevlar, glass and carbon. I was going to do one in kevlar but after much study and pricing of material I decided for home built , nothi...

Doglas Fir would sure make a strong boat with interasting wood pattern but it is very heavy compared to cedar 33lb/cubicft vs. 23lb/cubicft.

Welcome to the forum. There are different species of pine found aound the world. What I call white pine here in Ontario is Eastern White Pine ( Pinus Strobis). I have used it now for building 2 canoes and 2 kayaks. It is very similar to western red cedar in weight and strength , just a bit more weigh...

A big mistake people make is thinking the strength of a strp built hull comes from the epoxy and glass. A canoe built with no wood core and laminated with fiberglass and epoxy will weigh a lot more. Glass boats are heavy. You would need a total of 45oz. of cloth to build a canoe with just glass , ac...

I have built all my boats as described in CanoeCraft. I can not see stripping straight being easier.Sure you don't have to cut a center line but now you have to fit the ends of each strip on both sides of the foot ball which in my opinion dubles the work.I don't see strength as an issue either way.

Take a look at ClarkCraft or Glen-L sites. There is a formula , simple? Depends on your math skills.

Having built three Rangers I am not sure why you would want more rocker unless maybe you are building it for mainly river use. I would not want any more rocker than already there, they dance nice.

I have seen a canoe that had decks made with spalted maple, they looked great I thought. I have never used any myself though.

Use the stainless from ace , they will be fine, I get screws from the local hardware all the time. There is no need to get anything specified as for marine use. Generally stainless and brass make good choices, but I use brass only for screwws that are left exposed.
