Thanks John, How about drilling the hole in the boat? Just go at it? how about hole size? I was thinking OSD pvc conduit of 1/2" would be perfect. Now with would should I run slightly larger? A 1" hole seemes a bit big? I was going to leave this off the boat initiall, but, realizing how in...

Time for the painters hole. any tips? Jigs?

Well I'm ready for it. My decks are glued up and drying. My inner gunnels are ready to be rounded over, a little sanding and a sealer coat of epoxy, and the painters hole. My plan tomorrow is to get the deck to fit. Then apply fit and glue the painters hole. I'm opting for a 1/2" hole. Need to ...

I also used a forstner bit, but I did my inner gunnels in 2 pieces, one in ash one in cedar like John Michne's site. I didnt go dark though, opting to stay for a lighter cedar color. But I'm also building a solo canoe and sitting on the floor, not hanging a seat. There is no reason you couldnt use t...

makes sense. so the last scupper "block instead of being 3 1/4"es is going to run the full length to the inner stem tapering as it goes through the ash into the inner piece which I think I would stick with cedar on to keep it the same.

gunnel to deck transition? and cap or flush deck?

Been reading and re reading and seem to be missing something. I'm doing a scuppered inwale using the glue on block method. Being I'm sitting on the floor I choose to follow Mike's lead using cedar for the inner portion of the inner portion and ash on the outer portion of the inwale. So here lies the...

bad bubble, leaving on a trip......

Well put the inner glass on last nite. Had a sealer coat, but still managed a nasty buble. Not sure if the glass was just floating there or what. ANyways, need some idears for a decent repair. I did cut a slit and try filling it to no avail. So I cut the glass off, was planning on sanding the sides ...

instead of chancing it, I scaned with the 80. I did build the regular style supports. Thanks Dad I did see that also. My strongback was up on sawhorses so it would have been to high. I did make the upright portions oout of a piece cut to 36"es instead of the 20something recommended. I'm not tal...

aw but Glenn ;).

I think I'm going to just sand 80 grit and follow John Michne's example, holding off with the 120 till after the gunwales are on. Then varnish and call it done.

Need to build my stand today, now that i can make dust again without fear of ruining anything.

wet sanding with random oribtals?

Curiuos, I have the 5" dewalt. Looking through the old canoe craft it shows Ted wet sanding with an older style ROS, can it be done with the newer models? Can't find any literature on doing it, but I'm thinking you cant? I'd hate to ruin it as It's brand new. Or get zapped standing in water ;)

I've got mistakes, (notice the plug is off center a skosh ;) and a few other things) but I love it. Again thanks for everything. Tomo...
