Accent Strip
Todd,
Don't forget to add 1/8" to allow for the beaded side of the strip. The adjacent strip's cove will swallow 1/8" and this will make it all even again. Experience speaking!
Best Regards,
phil w

Canoe Plans
Canoeblderinmt, Greg: "BTW: Do you have an old copy of CanoeCraft with the "Peterborough" plans in it or is your boat a Prospector?" Yes, the Canoe was built to Ted Moores plans from a well worn and tattered 1996 Edition of Canoecraft. TO ALL THE FOLKS ABOVE, thanks for your nice...

Epifanes Source
zpeteman, Keep an eye on Jamestown Distributor's web site, Mail order, New England. They just ran a special on it @ $19.95 per Liter. Their regular price is $24.95. If you plan to use Silicon Bronze Carrage Bolts, and other supplies you can reduce the impact of shipping and save some $. They have al...

Epoxy vs Gorilla Glue.
Moonman, Just went through that scenerio a few weeks ago. I used Gorilla Glue on the mortise & tenon joints on the seats (white ash), and had no problems. When I had to tear one side off and replace it I cut and chisled the wood/glue joint to save the tenons on the cross pieces. I wasn't that im...

Varnishing the Hull
Dan, I just began this task this past week. :confused After worrying too much, as I did for the Epoxy stage, I just decided to jump in with both feet. After I read everything I could find on Epifanes Spar Varnish; Thinning, brushing, etc. I started with one of the seat frames. The first coat (thinne...

Scarf/Butt Joints
Just another Opinion, :eyebrows I personally think the scarf joint @ 8:1 done on the table saw with a fixture and gluing jig is the only way to go. I made my acent stripe (16ft. Peterborough) from 4 ft. lumber Phillipine Mahagony & White Aspen. You have to look real close to find them if you kno...

Fastening Mould Plates to strongback
One more way to do it. :eyebrows I made angle brackets, 3/4"stock, 4.0" high x 6.0" wide with a gussett for strength and accuracy (90 degrees). Then fastened them to the mould plates. Using strips of cardboard (the back of writing tablets) as shims It was easy to level and adjust the ...

Gang sawing strips
Welcome to the Forum CD GREAT Stuff here! Just to add a little detail to Glen's comments on gang sawing, above. I used two identical blades 7 1/2" from Home Depot. They were similar to the ones Glen shown above. I chose two with the narrowest kerf, approx 1/16". They were less than $10 USD...

Glassing
Jonnycanoe, Wether you use West System or another epoxy, go to www.Epoxyworks.com and print Ted Moores "Fiberglassing a woodstrip canoe" (12 pages). Read it two or three times and highlight the key points you'll want to refer to before you attempt the glassing. I just did it the first time...
