15' Ranger

:wink :big grin
In the last stage of completion. Decks installed, thwart installed, seats made and
ready for rawhide.

Then to the final detail and finish work.
Looks like, perhaps, two weeks if I can remain on course.
Then, Into the water for the shakedown crouse.

15 ft Chestnut Prospector

:wink :big grin
Completing the inwall installation on my 15' Prospector today.
Hope to have it in the water in two weeks. SLOW, yes, but good.
I try not to progress at such speed that I do not enjoy the task.

epoxy not varnish.

:shocked The 3rd and 4th coats were epoxy. no varnish is on yet. Sorry for the confusion. I would like to apply varnish over the epoxy after having scraped and sanded several areas if the varnish will cover and not be too visible. OR Scrape, sand and then apply epoxy just to the repaired areas :big ...

Epoxy or varnish ???

:thinking I have applied the 3rd and 4th coat on the hull of my Prospector and their are a few runs. Will the varnish coats cover a scraped and sanded (lightly) small area as well as the epoxy ?????? I am tring to stay as light as possible, so I would rather not add another coat of epoxy. :twisted e...

:thinking I am using RAKA 127 epoxy with 606 hardener and have seen nothing that I would call blush on the first coats. It seems to take 4 to 6 hours for the mix to become hard on the surface. I will use the finger nail test as you suggested as the surface will not be tacky at that stage. Tacky mean...

Epoxy coatings

:confused :thinking FG is on and I am ready to apply two coats of epoxy to fill the weave in the FG. I would like to apply both coats quickly to avoid sanding. Mfg,s literature and the books say to apply the second coat as soon as the first coat has started to set. OK, but it will be tacky. Should t...

:confused :embarassed Well, its me again with another problem. I had to take off from canoe building for about a week. I had just finished the two coats of FG on the outside of the hull when I stopped and it is now cured beyond the "about four hours" that is recommended. Quote;" If it...

OVERLAP ???

OVERLAP ???? YES, I will overlap and prepare the area to be overlapped (approx 1" to 11/2" first by removing loose or stray fibers and smoothing down to get as good an overlap as I can. I could not make a nice clean cut when I decided to not continue with the top layer so I will clean it u...

WOW

:frightened :confused :crying Wow, that double layer of 4oz was tough. About one third of the way down the hull I decided to give up on the double layer and "cut my losses and run". I cut the top layer off at that point , leaving the portion that was already wet out and starting weting out...

Quick question prior to wetout

I precoated yesterday afternoon and am going to wetout this morning using two layers of 4oz cloth being wetout at the same time. Regarding trimming the cloth at the stems; should the cloth be cut to just meet at the center of the stems ???? or overlap each other to provide strength for the stems ???...

:thinking :confused After futher review of the problem, in the wee hours of the night, I could also apply two layers of the 4oz cloth on the outside of the hull and order 6oz cloth for the inside. Benifits; 1...Using the two layers of 4oz would allow me to prceed with the glassing. 2...Use of materi...
