outside stem and keel

  I am going for using a keel on my Prospector-Ranger that I am now planking and beginning to look ahead to installation of the keel and stems. I am looking at using a keel as this canoe will be used in lakes and still water only and primarily as a fishing craft. Their seems to be two me...

not too bad

  The stems are only out by several inches.Steaming is out of the question, too large. I thought that soaking might be benifical, but it sounds like wetting them down a little and then using the rachet straps to pull them into the (next to) the inner stems would be a good solution. I do...

outer stem shape

  : While planking, my outer stems have tried to straighten out as they were sitting around waiting to be used. Not badly but enough to cause problems. I have to make new ones or straighten these out. They are made of laminated ash and epoxed together after being steamed and bent togeth...

Planking at bildge

 :? I am beginning to plank around the bildge on my Prospector-Ranger that I am building. I am noticing a small gap on the outyside of the hull between the planks. I am sure that this is normal due to the good plank to plank fit that I am getting on the inside of the hull. The planks are not p...

notches cut into strongback

  I ran into this problem while setting up the stems on my 15' Prospector-Ranger. My method to work with the strongback that is too long was to cut holes into the strongback to allow the stem ends to extend down thru the strongback. This allows me to contiue with planking and I can cut o...

WE SHALL OVERCOME. Thanks fisherguytoo

Stem bending advice needed

   I am ready to bend my stems on the Prospector-ranger that I am building. The idea comes to me that I have read that the heat gun can be used for this purpose. I have the heat gun and using it would be a lot simpler then putting together the steam set-up. This is my first canoe ...
