Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Thanks Brian, Good info.. I'll do a little checking around here to see what is available. Guess I'll hold off on stripping until I make sure my glue will work. I have a small heater, but, this shed is not closed. It's a steel framed car-port with tin roof, and I have made all the walls out of vinyl...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

A few more little odds & ends to take care of before I start stripping. Nobody local had any glue syringes so I went to the $ .99 store and picked up a 'pic-nik' 4-pack of little squeeze bottles. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/rehdbrown/Sairy%20Gamp%20Build/Glue%20disp%2001.jpg The hole...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Hi Brian Yes, I've used that tip before and was using it on my strips here. For purposes of setting the bit, I have to take the fence off to see, then put it back on to run practice strips. Somehow, between one and the other it gets off just a smidge.. I try to adjust it and it goes too far the oth...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Well, finally got a chance to play with the strips, so I finished all of the beads and most of the coves. Here's a few of them going through my old rickety home made router table. It was a real pain trying to adjust the bits just right. They are 1/4" B&C and my strips are 3/16" x 5/8&...

Re: 16' 0" Prospector

Brian & Randy Brian, my #7 is your #0. My #6 is your #1. Randy, the stem on the Prospector is nearly 24" long and butts up against sta.#6 and sta. #7 is 12" from sta. #6 and end of canoe. So, I will have to keep sta.#7 in position and it appears that I will have a choice of either cut...

Re: 16' 0" Prospector

Hi Brian Sorry for the confusion. From the sketch in Canoecraft and the prospector numbers, it shows the stems attached to station 6 and on to the end of the Bow/Stern of the canoe. Form 7 appears to be split and attached to either side of the Stem mold. The numbers in my copy are all given for hal...

Re: 16' 0" Prospector

Just about done with my drawings of Prospector sta. molds. On #7, I'm seeing it split in two and attached to both sides of the stem mold. I believe I'll be using 1/2" birch ply for the station molds and 3/4" for the stems, just for more support for the inner stems. So, as I understand it,...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Well, FINALLY able to sit down and write something... Unfortunately, there's not much to write. Spent a whole week prepping ground and seeding our place for the winter hay crop. Then got a call from a neighbor down the road that we could use his horse ranch for hay as well, so went down and prepped...

Re: 16' 0" Prospector

Thanks Randy Appreciate the help. Doesn't appear to be anything listed for the Prospector, so I'm good to go. I did find a small glitch in the stem figures, but, it's less than 1/16" and I'm guessing it's because this graph paper is very slightly off. I just moved it to where it's lined up and...

Any Corrections from '97 vintage Canoecraft.?

Hi All I've about finished drawing up my station forms for the Chestnut Prospector, using the '97 printing of CanoeCraft. I've read many of the past posts on the Prospector and have seen no mention of any corrections, but, I don't know which book they were building from. I've read where there were ...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Confusion.. ?

Planing is what I did to bring my strips to 3/16" thickness, while the bits put the B&C on the edges.
Not sure exactly what you mean Jim.

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Well, got out the router table to do my B & C, but, it needed some upgrading and a new fence to be able to use my bits. Got out the die-grinder and made short work on the plastic plate, then picked out some scrap plywood from another project ( fish tank base ), and got it all finished. Just did...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Well, I was hoping to get a good start on routing strips and setting up my stem molds, but had to play taxi for my grandkids, so didn’t get to that. I did have time to put up my stem molds and cut the laminated inner stems to size. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/rehdbrown/Sairy%20Gamp%20Bui...

Re: Form Base Height for stem clearance - Prospector 16

Well, I sure feel like a dummy..!! I mentioned earlier that I'd have to tape some graph paper onto my forms to get it tall enough to add the base pieces... My grandson is over for the night and asked what I'm doing. I told him and he said "Why don't you just turn the paper sideways". I co...

Re: Form Base Height for stem clearance - Prospector 16

Well Jim, I can't correct you cause I really don't know if you're cheap.!

But, That sounds like a good idea. Kinda what I'd thought I would have to do. I'll have to add 4 or 5" to the top... uh.. 180* bottom of my paper and do what you suggest.!
