Re: My 1st time epoxying,.(fiberglassing)
That statement really worries me greatly. If you had a good chemical bond, I would not have it to peel off.Chipper1959 wrote:...the runs peel right off !

Thanks everyone, Jamestown Distributors had a sale on the Epifanes and I also had a free shipping code so I ordered from there.

Scuppered inwales question
Should the taper be against the hull or people-side (inside) on the scuppered inwales?? Canoecraft does not specify (5th printing) that I can find.

Varnish recommendation
Does Bear Mountain recommend a specific varnish that I should use for my canoe? I know there is a number on the market but I was wondering if they had a specific recommendation.

Progress report
As I pass the one year milestone on my Ranger I thought I'd give a status report. Yesterday I got the inside fiberglassed, first day this year with the perfect weather conditions. I'm not sure I'm happy with the result but it is done and I'll accept that. The inner and outer gunnels are cut but need...

Re: Lofted the Wee Lassie II
I have the Veritas tool to burnishing and it is good for straight scrapers but I'm just use a screwdriver type burnisher for a curved scraper. Veritias has a curved scraper that worked well for me. It is like a straight scraper but the edges have an arc instead.

Re: Thwart mounting question
I purchased my thwart from Edscanoe.com as I want to get this done and this would save me a bunch of time. The cross section at the ends measures 3" wide by 3/4" thick. I think I can use three 1/4" dowels on each side and it'll be very strong http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-6120042436413...

Thwart mounting question
I'm thinking of mounting my thwart flush with the gunnels and I'm wondering if you guys think this will work. 1. Inwales glued to hull 2. Cut thwart to length mounted between inwales 3. On each side, drill two 1/2" holes through the hull, inwale and into the thwart end grain 4. Epoxy 1/2" ...

Re: Round over for Inwales
I'll let you in on a secret I found doing my ranger, the magic dimension for cutting the scuppers is 2 61/64", it took me a long time to figure it out but it fits the thwart and seats mounts perfectly. I have a schetchup file if you want it with the layout.

Round over for Inwales
I've got the scuppers cut and I wanted to do the roundovers for:
1. The scuppers
2. The inside parts of the inwales (avoiding the areas for the decks and thwart)
Looking for recommendations for the size of the roundover bit to usefor each. My inwales are 3/4 x 3/4 for my Ranger 15.
Thanks

Re: what size and type of clamps?
I have a ton of different clamps as I do other types of woodworking. For my canoe, I found that the following types of clamps worked best for me so far. You don't need fancy and expensive clamps. For scarfing, I used large binder clips from Staples. 15 to 20 3" Clamps I bought from Harbor Freig...

Re: Stability comparison
So a 124 kayak is not 24% more stable than a 100 canoe? correct?
