Thanks for the input. I bent the inner stem tonight using softwood. Still debating on whether to use an outer stem or just go without. Since getting the cedar seems to be the challenge, I'll likely have some time on my hands. If so, I'll go find some cherry and see how that works.

Now living in Kamloops, BC - a mecca for lakes - I have no idea where to go for Cedar. Any suggestions from the west coasters. Would prefer to avoid driving to Vancouver. Years and years ago I got my Cedar from Sunbury Cedar in Delta, BC. Thats were I'll go if I need to. I still own a set of bead an...

Stem material
Thanks for the help on the station dimensions. I have now made the stations and am ready to make the stems. My overall design goal is a simple double paddle canoe that is light. With that in mind, I will likely be avoiding hardwoods as much as possible. So what material would the forum gurus suggest...

Re: Stem measurements
Yes 3/4 on each end. I just wasn't sure if the offsets given included the reduced length if using a stem. I have now reduced the length by 3/4 inches.
Thanks

Thanks. That makes is clearer. I have lofted the values into Microsoft Visio, printed them, transferred to plywood and have now cutt them out. I left the stems for this weekend. A few more weeks and I'll be ready to start stripping.

Stem measurements
As I mentioned in my first post I want to build a couple of Rob Roys. For the stem stations I am not sure if the offsets take into consideration the addition of the 1.5 inch thick stems? So my question is do I just cut the stem molds at the indicated offsets or do I need to subtract 1.5 inches from ...

Back at it after 35 years
Thirty five years ago I built a couple of MicMac canoes. A big 19 footer. First one I built while in high school. Nothing like a little project to start things out. Well fast forward 35 years and I and want to build a couple of smaller canoes. I'm not getting stronger every day so the thought of lif...
