Thanks, Glen,
As usual, you always seem to have the answer at hand. I haven't tried warming the epoxy because I was worried that it would make it set quicker and cause the problem I'm trying to avoid. If I use smaller batches I avoid the problem altogether. Still looking for a shortcut, I guess.

A coffee cup and Xylene
If you take a paper coffee cup and make a 2" slit down the side, you can draw the squeegee through the slit and collect the wiped off epoxy in the cup. My only additional advice on wetting out the glass is to use small batches of epoxy so it will saturate the glass completely before it starts t...

Now I'm really confused. When I used my proprep, I used it right out of the box. It had a sharpened edge, not a squared off edge like a cabinet scraper that you burnish to form a burr. It worked great! I used it to knock the corners off of the strips before sanding and for scraping drips of epoxy, a...

Hi, Jason, I struggle with sharpening curved blades, so I just purchased a new blade for my second boat. I use it for initial fairing, scraping drips, taking gooey stuff off of anything it drips on, and other uses. Every time I put it in the drawer, I'm getting it out again in less than an hour. One...

Hi, all, I have two proprep scrapers, and they are NOT like a cabinet scraper. There's no burr on these, and they work best at a 90 degree angle or a little one way or the other. I wouldn't try sharpening one with a file, seems that would make a pretty jagged edge. Sharpen with a stone, flatten the ...

Check out this thread on the kayak forum. Oops, obviously that didn't work. There's a pic about 2/3 of the way down this thread of Kurt Loup's circular saw with a guide strip. There was a more detailed post somewhere but I can't find it now that describes cutting strips using a circular saw and guid...

Hiking boards
Aloha, ko'u hoaloha, I'm still putting the finishing touches on my new outrigger. I had it out sailing on the lake last week (first wind in a month), and it had so much weather helm that I'm having to move the mast foreward about 8 inches and possibly moving the leeboard back a few inches. I'm addin...

Patrick and Randy, Your canoe is BEAUTIFUL!!! I'm envious of your shared experience, and hope I'll get to sail Huna Kai with my son in HI. By the way, does she have a name???? I know you were kicking a few things around, but never heard if you settled on something. Many happy trips and time together...

I used Interlux Brightside Sundown on my amas, and I ditto what Rick says about multiple coats...Be aware that this is a very shiny finish, and it will show any imperfections in the preparation. I had to repair several holes in the amas caused by shipping damage, and though it felt pretty smooth bef...
