To John: Regarding possible crown, I took a chalk line with me to lumber yard and checked this before purchasing. I found a pair of engineered beams that worked pretty darn good! Not sure what I will use the next time I build. I would like to build a strong back with wheels so I can move it outside ...

Thanks

Thanks to all for sharing your thoughts on this new product. To Jeff: Special thanks to you Jeff for doing the research. You are right.... these sanding discs may be too aggressive. I put a flat spot on one of my canoes years ago with a power tool and have hand sanded hulls since then. I guess my me...

Microplane stainless steel sandpaper

Just saw these advertised in current Highland Hardware catalog, and was wondering if anyone had tried them out. Description reads as follows: These discs fit 5" r.o. sanders with hook & loop pads. They are made of 400 series stainless, this steel "paper" has bunches of slightly ra...

I have always laminated my outer stems right on the canoe. I call this fitting the stem to the canoe.....not the canoe to the stem!

Hi Jim, Just a reminder that your health is more important than that "perfect" finish. Use dust masks and/or respirators.......keep that sanding dust out of your lungs. I'm not sure that the epoxy is inert at this stage. So, I would be extra careful during the sanding process My suggestion...

To Rick: I'm looking forward to seeing the Huron Pic. The Huron design will be my next tandem canoe project. I loved the way my Bob Special paddled, but I just don't need the additional volume of the Bob for my short daytrips. I sold it to my brother-in-law. To Karkauai: I read about your misfortune...

Thanks for all of the comments and suggestions. I may just attack the one small area that really bugs me. I will just treat that area like a repair and remove the offending patch material. To Kurt: Great looking canoe and thanks for sharing the photos with us. To Glen: That was a diplomatic answer a...

To paint or not to paint?

I'm considering painting over the varnish on the inside of my Wee Lassie type canoe. My wife says that it would be a mistake. My intent is to cover up some poorly done patches, imperfections, etc. My questions is... has anydone this and were you pleased with the results? I have already purchased Int...

Glassing Stems

I had to add an additional layer to the stem area due to imperfections(white specks) showing up after about one season of use. I called it "Canoe Acne".....not sure what caused this! I just sanded out the specks and added the extra layer. Once you are done it will not be visible.....just a...

Wee Lassie II

Mac McCarthy has a Wee Lassie II design that might be better for your needs. I think it is a competely different design from the Wee Lassie....not a stretched version.

I paid $50.00 for the homebrew rear rack(see photo). The rack on the cab of the truck is a yakima rack which cost considerably more than $50 bucks. A local welding shop made the rear rack. They also made the bicycle rack that bolts to the rear bumper....another $50 bucks. I think that the commercial...

We got off the main subject talking about truck racks.......but, I agree that you certainly did justice to one of BearMountainBoats prettiest designs. It's a great looking canoe, congratulations!
