you could do what Glen Smith did when he had shorter inwales than the length that he needed. There is a good picture under the "stripe in deck pattern" on the 2nd page.

when we glassed the inside, we also worried about this (should we put in the spreaders?) we ended up just placing peices of wood and foam under each end of the canoe (by the stems) to raise the ends a bit and hold the center to the right width. we left it like that while the epoxy dried, and now wit...

Well, we solved our problem. We found that when pushing the gunnel into the blade, up against the fence of the router table, the bit would sometimes catch and rip away on the edge (caused by there being no back support for the gunnel as it is being pushed in). Once the peice of wood was snug up agai...

yes, i definetly agree, good job. especially on the color matching/selecting. that is one thing i wish we had done a bit better on. looking back on ours, i see there is one board that if switched with one other board would have made the matching better. But whatever, it is fine. I really like the lo...

dont know about your situation "its me", but erik, we have a similar think/problem on our redbird. On the outside (on the inside we were very careful to make that not happen) we had 3 spots like that where the glass came away from the sheerline. It only came away less than 1/4 inch down th...

Epoxy on paddle blade tip

Do you mix in any kind of special thing in the epoxy used on the tips of pladdle blades? Graphite? How do you go about doing this? Where can i find instructions for adding epoxy to a blade tip? Thanks, Patrick.

Weight

About how much weight will the epoxy and fiberglass on the inside and all of the trim (decks, gunnels, yoke, seats) add to the canoe? We weighed our canoe last night and with 4 coats of epoxy on the outside, unsanded or scraped, it weighs 35.9 pounds. I understand there are a lot of variables in wei...

Tried the hammer and wiggling. We eventually got them out, but had to pull REALLY hard to get the stem molds out. We hooked up some straps with ratchet thingys on them on to the stem molds and the ceiling and ratcheted them thight and pulled hard. Slowly they broke away. I checked the inside and fou...

Flipping the canoe.

We flipped the canoe today after a small boy scout planning meeting (kind of handy having a bunch of other people to help) and the flipping part went great. Didnt drop it or anything like that. The only problem is that the stem molds (along with station 8) are stuck/glued in place. We put tape aroun...

One more thing about using the stapleless process. We used a lot of strapping tape. Most of the time, we used the clamping jig thingys to hold the boards at the right angles and hold them to the molds and then we used half inch wide strapping tape and 1/4 inch dowels to hold the boards together. Put...

We used cove up, because it says to in canoecraft, and it helps to hold the glue untill you get past the turn of the bilge. Some people switch here to bead up and cove down so that you can put the glue in the cove of the strip you are glueing in place. We found that cove up works fine, it just leave...

fiddle

this has nothing to do with canoes or canoeing, but it has something to do with epoxy. My next project after our canoe will be an electric violin. Is there any reason not to use the left over west system epoxy for the electric fiddle? Thanks, Patrick Pfeifer
