Re: Varnish recommendation

What the other guys said... I use Epifanes and nothing else. There might be others out there but the others which I have tried have left me disappointed... You can get Epifanes in in a clear gloss as well as a satin (use for final coat(s) of hull interior). I buy mine from http://www.thechandleryonl...

mynot You are not alone in your quandry. I have also been down the same road (as have many others - http://www.bearmountainboats.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1221&hilit=endeavour+cockpit ). Kayakcraft is lacking cockpit placement details. You can also find the same question (with the respo...

Re: Lofted the Wee Lassie II

I agree with Glen, you might find the cabinet scraper is what you need. I learned how to use and sharpen cabinet scrapers for doing my hulls and I consider it one of the tools of choice.

Have you got any recent pics of your Wee Lassie II?

Re: inner stem questions

1. I round over the corners which are on the longitudinal axis (left and right of centre line). I also tapered the square end which butts up agains the last station (the square end with the end grain). I have a picture somewhere but I would need to search a bit. I believe Glen Smith has a picture of...

Re: My Paddle Making Websites

Kurt, Nice documentation of the bird's mouth paddle (shafts) that you make. I had started to make a similar construction paddle when I was creatign a hollow mast. I never did finish the paddles as I ended up moving twice since then. My days of moving have now come to an end (for several years) and I...

Re: Canoe Fiberglassed and Dyed

Or how about the "really fast build canoe." I am happliy jealous that you can build it so quickly.

It is looking good. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Re: Low angle block plane or Spokeshave

UniCacher,

I am not an expert, but I had very good results on the hull interior with a straight and slightly arced cabinet scraper. Sharpen them up like the site referenced by wb9tpg and you will be good to go!

Re: New canoe

I have used spruce, pine, and even some very dark contrasting WRC strips that I had. If you are after a light colour, do you have any eastern white cedar? I stayed clear of hardwoods for reasons that you have already noted. I have never tried basswood.

Re: New Canoe Build

Bryan, You will probably have as many thougth/comments as there are builders out there. I have often considered going with a thinner strip on the wall - I would have likely gone 1/4" with 3/16", but that is because I don't have the experience with the thinner strips. I also remember seeing...

Re: Freedom Solo 15' 3" or 16' 2"

Randy,
Great job on the canoe!

My question is actually about your paddle - is it a commercial paddle or your own custom creation?
