Exotic Woods

There are two exotic hardwoods that I'm thinking of using as accent strips on the decks of a Rob Roy I plan to build this winter. One option is Bocote and the other is Padauk. Has anyone used these woods? Are they suitable for epoxy and varnish? Thanks for any help.

sheer clamp

This winter I plan on building a Resolute kayak. I have Ted Moores book KayakCraft and have scanned thru it but I'm unable to find any mention of the best material to use for the sheer clamp. I would like to use WRC because I have a good supple of 17 foot 1X8. Your thoughts on this would be welcomed.

Michael Don't forget spring clamps ! Building a stapleless canoe you'll need at least 30. These usually are available in 3 sizes. I use the medium with a clamp opening of about two inches. A good random orbit sander is a must. I use a 5 in. and 6 in. both Porter Cable. The 6 in. is available in kit ...

woody Looks like all the epoxy/putty users are coming out of the closet. ME TOO. I had a fairly wide gap to fill and used fine saw dust to mix with epoxy. I think sanding dust would have been better. My paste was too corse. Glen has an excellent collection of photos at his web site. I'll revisit tha...
