The picture is going the right way. Many of us use a "climb cut" when routing our strips. WRC is very soft, and very prone to tearing. Climb cutting virtually eliminates this, but you NEED featherboards as described in the above post. I did mine the same way and it was all fine. As a wood ...

Concur with Sedges. I used the same stuff, mixed in with the varnish for the bottom of the boat. It's a very nice surface. Be sure to tape off the hull at the bilge as it is noticeable where the transition is to plain varnish and you will want a neat line.

Alick, Sorry you had such a tough time. Laying down the glass on the inside is for sure the most challenging part of building a stripper. I've been lucky and have only had a few places I needed to sand down and patch. Believe Mark when he says that if you are careful with your patching, it will not ...

My first canoe was a White Guide in 18 1/2 foot length, similar beam but no tumblehome. The bottom was flat. I used 6 oz cloth, with a football on the outside for reenforcement. The bottom oil-canned a little. My strips may have been a little thinner than 1/4". One thing you might consider is p...

Robbie, I'm not a pre-coater, and even going over double layers in the football section I've done OK. You have to watch that you don't starve the glass. I would recommend that when you buy your glass, buy some bias cut "tape" as well. This is nothing more than glass strips cut on the bias ...

When I got my first plastic cane from H&H, I was going to send it back because I thought it was natural cane. I have only used the plastic for all the reasons mentioned above. No on has ever asked me why I used plastic cane. I don"t think they can tell the difference either. No Muss, No fus...

Terry, I've seen the Elmers at Home Depot. and many hardware stores. I've used it on my two canoes. The epoxy covers right over it. I like it for two reasons: 1. You can easily mix several colors together to get a good match for the strips you are patching. Using epoxy and wood flour is tough, becau...

Terry, Think I have a pretty good idea what you are talking about on the V shaped areas. I would recommend filling them. Small spaces like that can hold air as the epoxy goes on adn really cause some problems. Try the Elmers stuff in the tubes. It comes in a couple of colors so you can blend and get...

My last canoe, which was a big one, took me about 400 hours spread over almost a year. In the middle of that I moved a couple of hundred miles and changed jobs. I was still single. Since I got married, I haven't even been able to get the shop set up yet. I did some custom stuff on this one: hand-cut...
