Re: How to diminish cured epoxy line
Yes indeed it was Ross! Apologies all around but for sure that's where I saw it mentioned. I knew it was a 'Kayak' guy! Anyway, thanks for the correction John.

Re: How to diminish cured epoxy line
Ah yes randy you are correct it was John. Funny, I was going to suggest Rod OR John, but then thought it must be Rod! Anyway, apologies to John Michne. I love his website and his practical building advice.

Re: How to diminish cured epoxy line
Alan, just in regards to the mixing of epoxy, I don't use the pumps at all - to fussy. I use a method I read about years ago. Can't remember exactly who - maybe Rod Tait? Might be wrong, read it maybe 12 years ago so I hope I'm forgiven by the originator if I got it wrong. Anyway, the method entails...

Re: Rice Lake Skiff - layup interior - two layers of glass
Depending on your strip thickness, the hull MAY be strong enough without the overlap but you will be negating the added strength of the second layer of glass on the outside. The glass needs to have the same layer thickness on each side of the wood layer to maintain its maximum strength. In effect, y...

Re: Greenland Kayak
Randy, which brand of poly are you going to use? Reasons? Also, will you need more than one coat? Just curious on this building process.
Thanks,

Re: Greenland Kayak
Thanks Randy. I've seen that skin on Frame book before. One day I will add it to my library. I've been thinking of a kayak for a while as well - when I do start one I think it will be one of the One Ocean designs though.

Hey Randy,
Which model/plans - or is this a boat you designed yourself? Looking forward to progress pics.

Re: shaping stems
After making a few paddles in which the efficiency and control of the rasp has been demonstrated, I have come to believe that for a newby or someone not having a history of working with hand tools, the easiest way would be the wood rasp and then the sanding stick. I have used all the above mentioned...

Re: southern Ontario source for cherry gunwale stock
Noah's has it listed in their catalogue, but they are often out of it. You can also try Century Mill Lumber in Stoufville and Royal Wood shop in Aurora. I've seen long lengths of clear cheery their on occasion. Both will be board though, not pre-milled. However you might get lucky and find a 3-4 inc...

Re: when is a canoe design a new design?
Hi Alick, I think I agree with Randy on this one. I only see an issue (legally) if you are blatantly copying a design. Even then, if it is for personal use, perhaps its more a moral issue than a legal one. If indeed you are taking design cues from 3 or more boats and combining them into something ne...

Re: Fast design for recreational canoe race.
Congrats your boat looks great!
re your gunwales, depending on your finish, you could coat with epoxy then varnish, for a much harder surface. BTW, let us know how you did in the race.

Re: sos - off the forms in a big way!
Have you checked to see if other strips have also raised a bit as well, especially nearer the ends? In other words, is the hull still fair? If you truly think the strips might break if pressure is applied to get them back touching the forms, and the hull is still fair, then perhaps you should live w...

Re: Any thoughts on making Seat Backrest?
h yes, life. That's always the way. I know exactly what you mean. This back rest project isn't high priority for me so it may be a while. It would be nice o have it done for my May trip but more likely summer. And DSJ, wow I love your backrest! Really nice work there. What was the final weight? Moon...
