Hi Mack; it's been awhile since I built my canoe. I trimed the sheer line before fiberglass, one reason is that when it comes time to pull the forms, the less wood on the forms the better. mbmike, the marks do come out with light sanding then another coat of varnish. I will have to do that anyway in about another month because I will be entering it in the county fair. I do know of people that have tried their boat out with just epoxy on it. Of course the sun would be a big thing to consider. Varnish will take 3 to 5 days to cure, I let mine varnish cure for a week and when I strapped it done on my truck it left marks where the straps were. I don't know how much s...
