Yukon Quest
Thanks Ken, I`ll have a look this book.----- Are the mozzies that bad then? I camped in Algonquin park a few years back and they were a real pest. Would like to hear of your experiences on the Yokon. Getting the outer stems on my canoe shaped and flaired. A goood deal of work to do yet but I`ll get ...

The Yukon Quest.
Can anyone tell me if they or anyone they know has taken part in the Yukon Quest ? And did they use a cedar strip to complete the course. I have contacted the info for the Quest and they replied that if I choose to use a cedar strip, provided it came within their specs. it would be OK. My twin broth...

Steam bending hint
I used this method of bending without steaming. It worked very well. Unfortunately the outer stems were left for quite a while with cord attached to G clamps at either end to maintain curvature. When I removed the clamps I put the stems in the back of my car under the rear window. The sun was very s...

Recent Lives Lost
It`s sad to hear of the deaths of so many people in drowning icidents in various lakes in Canada, over the long weekend period. Three died on Rice lake and another two ( from canoes) in individual sirsumstances in other lakes. Unfortunately it was found that the majority of the persons who drowned w...

No I did`nt know that Glen. I know that the trailer park is called Shady Acres and that there are old Indian burial mounds just across the road from it.

Canoe bottom
I know everyone has their own preferences and I would like to hear from all you builders. I`m at the point of closing the bottom of the canoe but cannot make up my mind which method to employ. ( I`ve taken ages to get this far) What should I go for. That method as illustrated by Ted Moores, the Herr...

Rice Lake.
Just a wee question that has no relavance to your question. I just wanted to know if the Rice Lake skiff got it`s name from Rice Lake, just outside Peterborough. There`s trailer park there.
Hope you don`t mind me jumping in on your subject.

Bilge:Slight gap
Thanks all of you. Everything taken on board. I tried something I saw on the forum to fill gaps. I took one side of the cove from a spare piece of strip. It looked like an elongated V shape. I glued this into a gap as an experiment, let it dry, faired it down --- no gap. Looks great. But turning the...

Bilge : Slight gap
Hi all, I`ve started to turn the bilge with my strips. NOT FUN javascript:emoticon(':confused') Anyway, trying as hard as I can on some parts I find it impossible to completely slot the "bead" into "cove". There is a slight gap in places. I`ve pulled down with masking tape, ratch...

Thanks all of you.
The "plug " method sounds great yet when I cut a small wedge to press into the nail hole it just crumbles away. What am I doing wrong?
Always something to confound us, eh?
Thanks again.

Thank guys. Ok, so its think time for me. The bungie cord idea sounds fine.I was actually going to experiment with ratchet cables, the type used to hold down small loads on trucks. Whatever, something will work. This is a good learning curve to take to my next boat. But it`s a very steep one. Danny
