Re: mold that goes on center line
I would center the widest mold. This would be the center mold on a symmetric design but that is not the general case.

Recent Build
The forum has been down the past couple days. Thanks to the BMB staff (Matt Snell) for getting it back up! Here's a link to a video done by an excellent builder who filmed his whole project and put this together. It's really excellent and contains many good builder tips. Take a look.. https://youtu....

Re: cutting end off stem molds
If you are not shaping your station molds to match the fair curve of the hull, you can leave the stem mold as drawn. The edge of the last station molds on either end of the canoe will then match the height of your stem molds. But if you choose to fair the station molds, then the outer edges of the l...

Re: number of strips needed for 15' ranger.
the ratio of 13/16 to 3/4 would suggest needing 70 strips instead of 64. This is assuming the 13/16 and the 3/4 refer to the actual width covered on the hull rather than the width of the strip before bead/cove are cut (assuming you will bead/cove the strips - which will narrow the coverage of the st...

Re: How do you like your Freedom Solo?
I'll put in a pitch for the Freedom Solo as well. The chine is a bit tricky but after that, the hull is very easy to strip. As fro the utility of the shouldered tumblehome, I think it is a fabulous asset. It narrows the beam at the gunwales so it is much easier to reach over with the paddle. If that...

I've never done this but it's been done many times and works just fine.

Re: Offsets for the freedom 17
Here's an update from Steve Killing the designer of the Freedom 17 (and several other boats):: Joan and Matt, The full size plans are drawn to the inside of the planking – so the shape given is the shape for cutting the mold stations. In the latest CanoeCraft the offsets for half breadths (stations ...

Re: Offsets for the freedom 17
You wouldn't subtract 1/4" from each table (or just one). You would need to remove 1/4" from the forms edge all along (as in draw a line parallel to the lofted lines drawn from the tables. But I think that is all moot. Someone on facebook noted an FAQ on the BMB website: "At the Bear ...

Brian, did you subtract 1/4" from the tables in Canoecraft to account for the thickness of the planking?

Re: New paddles Ready for the Water
Jim, The monocular is a Zeiss 5X monocular and it can be focused. It is removable from the paddle grip to adjust if needed. I passed this new paddle to the new owner on Sunday (It was a birthday gift from his wife).
He loved it!

New paddles Ready for the Water
I just finished a few new paddles. One (3rd from the left) was built on commission so I won't get the paddle it. All were built with WRC with a hollow shaft using 8 bird mouth joints. The grip on that 3rd paddle is rather large but has room for a small 5X telescope. Really handy when looking for a p...

Re: Couple more milestones passed
I use the beltsander to "cut" the strips flush with the inner stem. As you say, looking down from above makes it much easier. I usually put a strip of metal about 2'long under the belt so I can be sure it is square as I trim. Took some guts the first time but once I got the hang of it, it ...
