What commercial canoe does my Redbird Compare too?

The Wenonah Minnesota II at 18'-6" came very close to paddling like my Redbird. I just spent two weeks in the Boundary Waters in three very different canoes. A 16' Royalex, a 16'-6 Aluminum and the Minnesota II with three seats. These canoes were typically loaded with three kids, two adults and...

Funny I enjoyed canning the seats. It was easier than I expected and I could talk to other people or watch TV as I did it. Of course it helped that I sat in an air conditioned room.

I got the the brass piloted round over bit and had trouble when I attempted to round out the scuppers on my Redbird. The curve of the shear line was too great and the router plate would not sit flat. Maybe there is a way to do it but I could not get it right.

At least someone liked enough to steal it. :wacky

My guess is that it's hanging in someone's boathouse or lashed to a boat cabin.

No losing a boat like you did to careless shippers and a series of unfortunate events is much worse than losing a 3 hour paddle.

Somebody Stole my paddle

I made two Gilpatrick paddles. They were nice but hardly anything approaching a fine piece of art. We canoed three miles down the St John's River, which runs along the East coast of Florida. We pulled into Blue Springs for an afternoon of frolicking in the cool spring water. The canoe was pulled ash...

I have been a convert to rolling and tipping out with a brush. I have used the cheap foam and the fake lamb's wool x 2" long roller. A liitle operator error with the lamb's wool roller had allowed the expoxy to set -up a wee bit too much and left a patch of fur on the canoe hull. :embarassed A ...

Well I called Raka on this and he blamed my wet out. He went onto say that wet wood was a big no-no. He described how newly purchased plywood needs to be allowed to dry sereval weeks before fiberglassing. Ok so he sees a varity of applications. But he was a big proponent of pre coating the wood, tha...

Scratched up the bottom enough to expose some weave

I am surprised this happened on its second voyage but it did. I had four fill coats of epoxy and four coat of varnish. :crying Now I have a about four spots where you can see and feel the weave. I am thinking that I need to sand and add two top coats or epoxy and more coats of varnish. What say you?

John is right on. I live in Tampa, Florida and although its warm here most of the time it still can get chilly at night in the winter. I built my canoe in an open barn and stripped it from January to mid February. Working mostly at night, the temperature would drop into the low 50's and this really ...

I used the h-bone method on my redbird. I believe the discontinuous seem of the h-bone joint to provide superior strength over the straight line of the single cut. Both have been used for years. For your review this is how I did it. - To get the first cut I placed the strip in partial position with ...

Burning or Carving My last Name into Yoke and paddles

I am thinking about burning my name into the yoke and paddles.

Is this over the top in egocentric behavior? Have you in some discrete on not so discrete way branded your canoe?
