Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Starting to assemble the stems and I decided to try epoxy resin. Don’t think I’ll do it this way again. Way too time consuming and messy.! I usually use Titebond II, rub in a thing coat and let it soak in and start drying. Then add a second coat and put the pieces together. Tighten them down, make ...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

My actual intent for this boat is as a sample of our Paulownia wood, so since it's white, my accents are the redwood and poplar. I want very little other wood in it, to demonstrate how light our Paulownia is. I think I have more wood/strips than I'll actually need for the build. The inner stems are...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

I got a wild hair and decided to put on a fairing strip and see what it looks like so far, less the stems, of course. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/rehdbrown/Sairy%20Gamp%20Build/Fairing%20Strip%2002.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/rehdbrown/Sairy%20Gamp%20Build/Fairing%20Strip%...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Back to the Strong-Bench and sta. mold set up and alignment. Even though I put a centerline down the top of the bench, I still needed to put a stringline above the molds to double check. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/rehdbrown/Sairy%20Gamp%20Build/sta.%20molds%2004.jpg Here, all the stands...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Started gathering everything out in the shed. I built those little stands for a previous boat and they will work out perfect for this one as well. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/rehdbrown/Sairy%20Gamp%20Build/Strong%20bench%2001.jpg Now It’s time to start setting up the stems. I broke out m...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Hi Jim That's another reason why I went with narrower strips. That twist comes in a very short distance, and I want to do a couple stripes in there above the waterline. I will be doing B & C on some of the strips, however, the thin acceent strips may have to be left flat. That's my next and las...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Now to give the Strong-Bench a little love after 8 years of neglect. Got out the sander and plugged it in… from there, the bench sanded itself. When I build a Strong-Bench, I don’t fool around..!! Then I got out the squares, rulers and put my centerline back on in pencil. After that, I got out the ...

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs

Well, that first post went well, aside from the terrible spelling. Whew..!! Pictures of the forms as I was coating them with epoxy along the edges and into the dado’s. Then hanging them out to cure. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v298/rehdbrown/Sairy%20Gamp%20Build/routs%20forms%2002.jpg http://...

My Sairy Gamp Build

O.K. I hope this is posted in the right spot. I’m getting back into building after 7 or 8 years. My project is two-fold in that I’m need to make something to demo the wood I’m growing ( Paulownia ) and I want a practice project to start with after all this time. I’m building the Sairy Gamp, as per ...

Re: Posting Pics..?

Thanks Brian
I've done this all before, but, not for 7 or 8 years, so it should all come back to me. I'll check out photo-bucket and go from there.
First, I need to brave the rain and get out in the shed to bend some stems..

Posting Pics..?

What are the procedures for posting pics on this site. It's been years since I did so. I notice most of the past pictures are gone, so I'm assuming they are temporary. Any favorite sites to locate same. I've started the Sairy Gamp and wanted to post a few as I tool through the process, not like you...

Re: Lofting Sairy Gamp... Issues..?

Glad to be back. Doesn't look as busy as it used to be..? Everyone out getting in those last few paddles before weather moves in.? One thing nice is, there's LOTS of reading to catch up on. :wink One bad thing is, lots of the pics have been removed over the years. :sad Got sidetracked already today...

Re: Lofting Sairy Gamp... Issues..?

Wow..!! Has it been that long... since 2007.? First off, I was really sorry to hear that Glen had passed. We talked many times about different builds and especially on the Sairy Gamp. Glen sent me the numbers lofted by O.E. Markkula, back in 2007 and I redid them in 'inches' and drew them up for st...

Mike You could double up on a lighter weight cloth for added strength. I have used 3.25oz satin weave cloth and layed it on in apposing angles ( X ) to keep the weight down and strength higher. Satin weave takes less epoxy than standard weave, takes a little more effort to Wet-Out, should give you ...
