Here's a self contained real time gps tracking device that should do the trick, it can be monitored via the internet.

I don't know the exact name, but they are used in cars to protect against theft. It's is a device that sends out a signal and can be tracked by sattlelite. A few guys on the teardrop trailer site have installed these things in their trailers. I'm sure there is a sizeable initial cost, then annual fe...

Rick,
I'm surprised that nobody responded to this.
I've never seen these before.
It sounds like you would have to mix them in with your resin, but I'm not sure about that.
If so, it seems to me that it they wouldn't have a big effect on the grain of the wood, but act more like an overall tint.

Kent, These are my personal thoughts of what I would probably do if I were in your shoes; First of all, I'd look at the wa'a as a total loss, at least as far as the shipper is concerned. I would be tempted to find a canoe museum that would accept in it's current state, willing to put it on display, ...

What those guys did, is worthy of a hangin'. I would insist they pay all repair costs and transportation costs as well. If I remember right, you had 3K worth of protection, but what they did was unexplainable. Kent, are you allowed to say what frieght company did this? It reminds me of an out of tow...

Yes... Alder has got to be the best wood I've found to smoke fish with.
The Indians around here showed me that one and they try to get alder that's been down for a while that has a growth of mold on and under the bark.

There is a version of playing golf on water from a canoe, sounds like a good compromise to me. You'd get the best of both worlds.

A local group of Yurok Indians recently went to Ireland to protest at one of those companies headquarters. The feds stepped in this summer and released tons of water into the Trinity River, which dumps into the Klammath way upstream to help out the fish with increased water flows. The main problem t...

Well,
From the area that you are describing, you'd have to go quite a few clicks downstream to see those dugouts. You're just below the dam, up where the interior valley farmers snatch all the water, which leaves the fish runs without enough water and tons of dead fish. It was a mess last year!
