Re: Slightly buckled strip...
Yeah, 3/32" would be a very flimsy cheater strip to handle. I should have realized you would likely have only a small mismatch this early in the game. I really like the canoes with the second accent strip around the football, and this particular strip should look fantastic. By the time you get ...

I know you're not to the football stage yet, but your problem is very similar.

Re: Back at it after 35 years
I think your deductive skills are fairly accurate. Check this link: http://web.archive.org/web/20121108113627/http://bearmountainboats.com/2012BACKUP-OLDSITE/canoestems.htm [Edit} In that post a few additional measurements are given one of which is 1-04-2+ @5 1/16. I believe this is the offset on th...

Re: Stem measurements
When you say 1.5 inch thick stems, I assume you mean two stems, each one 3/4" thick. The procedure is to deduct the thickness of only the inner stem. This is covered in the last paragraph of page 95 of Canoecraft, revised and expanded. On a similar topic, page 42 states that 1/4" must be d...

Re: Canoecraft Offset Revisions
Here you go, courtesy of the Wayback Machine. The good news is that the Freedom 17 has exactly one error. http://web.archive.org/web/20121108113627/http://bearmountainboats.com/2012BACKUP-OLDSITE/canoestems.htm I'm afraid that the machine doesn't capture graphics, so the sketch is missing. If you tr...

Did you lose all your Bear Mountain bookmarks?
I know this forum has a feature to bookmark topics of interest, but if you're like me and save your bookmarks in a folder in your browser, you may have noticed they don't work anymore. I had close to a hundred topics saved for that day when I can financially justify building one of these beautiful b...

Re: Lined up after Shower
Once upon a time, the 38 Special was on my short-list for a solo canoe. But it seems the plans are no longer offered for sale. Did you get yours from Northwest? According to this post at MyCCR http://www.myccr.com/phpBB3_PROD/viewtopic.php?t=5848&p=50039 the Merlin used to be a smaller canoe, a...

Re: Different styles of filling in the football
Bear Mountain sells a package of 64 strips which they say will do most canoes, plus a bundle of 8 strips for large girth canoes such as the Prospector or Nomad. This is the same number of strips that you have. If you bought Bear Mountain strips it seems you should be alright. However, these strips a...

Re: Question: Best way to transfer centre line to strips
I found this, http://www.pdxtex.com/canoe/canoe7.htm but I have a feeling it may not help (you can click on the photos to enlarge them). I think you have to mount those reference strips on the centre-line of each station before you start planking. Judging by your photos elsewhere you don't have much...

Re: Canoe Poem
It is an odd effect, but I was just talking about the poem itself. To be fair, I think he was deliberately trying to write a groaner.
I lost a beach ball at the lake this way when I was a kid. It was shocking how fast something light can move across the water with the wind behind it.

Canoe Poem
I both chuckled and groaned when I read Shawn Waite's cautionary tale.

Re: chestnut prospector help!!!
ok on page 43 of the old book on chart B station 6, row 16 it says 15 13/16-'' and the one up from that one on the 14th row it is only 5'' 13/16'' is this a misprint because it sure dont look right! . I have the 1983 Canoecraft which is almost the same except 15 13/16- is on row 18. I agree it look...
