Roger, As Glen Smith told me, the little white spots are sanded glass dust pressed into the holes. He suggested I take a toothpick and/or toothbrush and wet out the area and then brush/pick out the dust. It worked great for me. The other issue of filling on not filling is whether or not you want it ...

Thanks Glen... Image: Interesting! The directory on MY computer is JMGWeb for my personal site and I use a sub directory of Nomad to store everything related to the Canoe stuff. On COMCAST, my ISP, the subdirectory is Nomad17 which I did not know. I thought they were both the same. GREAT EYE, Eh... ...

Hi Glen,
I checked my web site and the photo's are there and they are in the correct directory but they don't show on the forum. They do work on my website and in my html editor.
Help please... CYA, Joe

Glass Repairs...
Hi Glen and any others that may want to chirp in... Here is a photo of the hull after I sanded it from stem to stern and it looks good except for the creases and stems. No wetout problems and very uniform in color and texture. http://nomad17.home.comcast.net/~nomad17/CleanSandedGlass.jpg I have two ...

Laminating...
Gunnals are compound bends because they curve both horizontally and vertically and that's the reason why laminating doesn't really work. Laminated pieces only bend perpendicular to the flat side of the boards laminated. IMHO With a scarf joint, you want to put the scarf near the center of the canoe ...

Ongoing saga...
Well today I started on the fiberglass repairs! I first used a scraper and it worked beautifully for the bristles, runs, tiny air bubbles but it was very slow so I then tried my Dewalt Random Orbital Sander with 220 grit paper. I think it's a forgone conclusion that I will need another coat of epoxy...

Bad day at the office...
Well, a very long, hot, humid and tiring day with poor results but at least all three coats of epoxy are on the fiberglass. I have two creases to deal with that did not go away with all my attempts and they are still visible and need work. In the stem transition area, I have air pockets that are cau...

Crease in fiberglass...
PROBLEM... I have a crease in the fiberglass! It was rolled but it's on one side about 2' back from the stem. It is not a sharp crease as it looks like it was rolled over when it was rolled? Canoecraft says you can't get out creases but there has to be some adhesion between the glass and the cedar t...

Ready for Glassing...
Hi All, Finally got the stems mounted and I'm ready for glassing after some more sanding. Would like to do this process over again but all in all, it turned out OK. The gaps are small enough that with the curves and shaping of the stems, you can't see anything that looks out of place. I must say tha...

My Nomad 17'
I was very apprehensive when I started cutting in the mortise for the outer stem. I got the fit pretty good but it seems the more you mess with it, the worst it gets. My problem was getting the inner stem with strips perpendicular to the center line. Anyway, I did the best I could and I added a litt...

Good advice Glen... Thanks I also had a nice talk with the West System people and one of them mentioned the color issue. He said the the Titebond will dry dark which it does and Epoxy dries clear and with a little flour, you can closely match color and hide any gaps in stem fit. I have ordered the C...

Attaching outer stems...
OK Guys, I'm ready to attach one end of the outer stems. It is fitting pretty good and with a little more work, I will be happy with it. The question is... Can I use my Titebond III waterproof glue that I have used for the entire canoe or do I have to use Epoxy like the book says? Is there some reas...

I'm your size plus and it's not a problem for the canoe... Remember, you are not sitting on land and every impact or movement is offset by water movement cushioning any blows that could harm your canoe. If you crawled around in you canoe on land, it would be a pretty mess in short order so just keep...
