Bob's Special Half Breadth quesition
Hi all, In lofting the Bob's Special I've got a point that looks off. Not a huge deal but curious if someone might know. Its the half breadth on #3 at 8". Looks to be about 1/16" wide. Of course it could be the points above or below but from the general look of things that seems to be the ...

Re: Symmetrical to Asymmetrical?
Jim,
Looking at Delft Ship now, have you used it? My spidey sense is tingling....this looks like a very interesting rabbit hole, I may never return!

Symmetrical to Asymmetrical?
Was looking at the Freedom 17 and Bob's Special and wondered if anyone has turned a traditional design into an asymmetrical design by moving forms? For example if you made the Bob's 16' instead of 15' but only stretched the front half of the boat, would it be good, bad or indifferent? Just curious -...

Re: Waterline beam question
For some reason I had assumed that the Wenonah Boundary Waters was sort of a high performance design, might have been the kevlar! But on researching it, its a pretty docile performer. I wouldn't say its effortless to paddle, but not a slug either, a good stable tripping boat, which has been fine so ...

Waterline beam question
Greetings again, I'm back after two wonderful trips in the BWCA/Quetico in a kevlar Wenonah Boundary Waters canoe, so that's my point of reference. I'm still thinking the Kipawa is a good fit for us for future trips but in comparing the WBW specs to the Kipawa I noticed that the waterline beam measu...

Re: Canoe seat mounting that allows for different tilt posit
Just came back from 6 days in the Quetico and came to the board to post this question! Getting to and from the ranger station from Hook Island was a haul, headwinds on the way out and crosswinds on the way back, and just the general back strain of the trip makes inquiring minds wonder about the alte...

Re: Carpenter's glue/Titbond question
I've used (and cleaned up) a lot of carpenter's glue in other contexts, and this has been my experience as well - that's why I asked! I can see an advantage in using a glue that dries harder and is easier to scrape and sand - so just curious. Thanks!

Carpenter's glue/Titbond question
On a thread on WB re stip building, someone recommended Weldwood plastic resin glue because it dried harder and was easier to sand, less prone to gumming up than carpenter's glue. Anyone used it or like anything better than the standard?

Re: Non-Bear Mountain Designs
Brian, Please keep the updates coming! The lines of this hull design are just beautiful - those transitions make me drool...I know it paddles well but looking forward to your impressions. I'm getting used to the profile of the Winters and Killing designs. Part of me wants a more traditional look and...

Jim,
That is VERY interesting - thanks for posting!
How would you compare the cost of the two methods?

Re: An Alaskan Prospector
Also like the idea of skid plates - was actually thinking of this due to flipping the canoe and resting it on the rocky terrain in the BWCA, definitely an area of the canoe that will take some abuse if not protected.

Re: An Alaskan Prospector
Great to hear re the graphite - I plan to use mine in the Boundary Waters which is very rocky. We just got back and put a few scratches on a Kevlar canoe, so good to know! And great thought re the decks - hadn't thought of drainage, I was thinking of weight savings. Beautiful work.

Beautiful canoe! Looks like a graphite finish on the bottom? If so, interested to know how that has worked for you. Also looks like no decks - were you going for weight savings?
Great job,
Clay
