Cedar dust

Thanks Glen and Rick, I am becoming a bit of an asthma nerd since I started to experience the symptoms. Last night I read a 30 page paper by an asthma specialist, and it seems that once the body is sensitised by plicatic acid, a natural preservative found in Western Red Cedar you have it for life. Y...

Hi Rick,
Thanks for your rapid reply. Does your filter take out the vapour as well as the dust particles.

Cedar dust

Hi, I have been working with wood for many years, and during that time I completed a cedar stripper. I did'nt have an extraction system but I usually wore a mask and I had no problems with dust. My latest build is a Hiawatha and after I had been hand sanding some strips I had difficulty breathing. T...

Peterborough

Hi Randy, Like is far too mild an adjective, I LOVE it. It handles like a dream and has plenty of carrying capacity for two with all their camping gear. The only change I would have made is to shave off some weight. It was my first build so I wanted it to be strong and to last. This in retrospect wa...

Thanks Glen, I have contacted the German company you mentioned in the hope they will be able to supply the wider cloth. I also emailed the West importers for the U.K. and berated them for not supplying 60inch cloth. Their argument is, not enough demand. I think it is more a case of making do on the ...

Why have you built your own boat? Inspiration. Most people at sometime during their lives feel inspired by people with huge charisma, great intelligence and wisdom, or unswaying integrity and honesty. But when we relate this to visual images and beautiful objects, whether they have been created by t...

60 inch cloth

Hi, I am trying to locate 60 inch wide cloth in the UK for my second build. My first build was a Peterborough and I was really pleased with the result, but joining the cloth down the keel line was difficult to say the least. For my Hiawatha I am determined to locate 60 inch cloth even if it means pa...

Hi Willo, Sorry for the late reply, I have had computer problems. I took your advice and bought a router and mounted it in my saw table, which is cast aluminium and has cut outs for mounting extra machines. After practicing and making guides for right, left and above I have managed to produce some a...

Machining your own planks

I am on my second build and would like to machine my own planks. Can anyone advise me on the minimum equipment I would have to buy to produce some good bead and cove strips.

Message for Glen R.E. connection

Hi Glen,
Thanks for the reply. The only way onto the BM site for me is Internet Explorer so I think it must be some AOL rubbish stopping me. Time to change providers.

Regards,

Richard
