I have used a Harbor Freight Special (Chicago Electric) similar to the on in the following link: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=66001 It worked fine until the one of the settings shorted out at the switch. I have not bothered to fix it, as the remaining setting work...

Alan, I can't help you with the rudder - I did not install one. I was also a little unsure of the bulkhead installation. I ended up dry fitting with a slight gap around the circumference and installing in two stages, installing in the hull first with the deck off for good access, followed by the dec...

I did not put an inspection port in mine. My intention was to put hatches in, but I m now in the situation I had predicted - still no hatches. As I knew it would be a while before I got around to installing hatches, I did install a breather hole approx 1/2 - 2/3 of the way up the bulkheads. This is ...

Bob, I did my Endeavour a bit different from what you describe on both the deck/hull joint and the coaming. For the deck/hull attachment, I followed the method shown in Kayakcraft, using the shear tie and thickened epoxy. I did not use glass. For the coaming, I used vertical cedar strips, with an as...

Fredzen, I have paddled the Freedom 17 and it is a very nice paddle. I have not had the opportunityt to try it in different configurations (solo, loaded for tripping, etc). I only paddled tandem with no extra load (2 adults). I really liked the way it handled and tracked (usually opposing qualities)...

OK. Unfortunately, I cannot help much. I did use the foms 1 and 15 on my JF16... Probably not much help as I suspect that he is dealing with the fairing of the stems, given the stretching of the design? We got our first snow today, so I will probably light a fire under myself and return to finish of...

I know of one person who built a 17' Prospector stretched from the BM plans. He built it at 50 lbs and has many good things to say about the way she paddles. If you are interested, PM me and I will send you his email address.

Don't forget to give your cabinet scraper(s) a try. They also work well on the inside.

sluggo, Good to hear it turned out fine - I kind of thought that the final laminated product would not be far off (providing you glued up on the form). Keep us up to date on progress. I am curious to see how heavy and what kind of balance you get, given your wood selection for shaft laminates. Snowman

Sluggo, I have two suggestions for you wrt the shaft angle and your current product: a. you could continue your paddle and use the 7 degree product; or b. send me the 7 degree shaft and I will use it. I have been wanting to build a bent shaft paddle and I was planning on a 7 degree. I don't know how...
