Re: Dings
Having experienced this problem many times over the years, finally Epoxyworks Magazine offered a simple solution, using West System's G/5 Epoxy to fill the ding. There is an article explaining "how to" in their magazine no.28, Spring 2009. Here's a link to it. http://www.epoxyworks.com/28/...

Check this article in Epoxyworks Magazine. I have used this to make repairs to my stripper. The G5 Epoxy really works and you can make repairs quickly. It may be a method you can use to eliminate the "spots" you have.

Re: Beveling scuppered inwales
Thanks. I'd rather not bevel the inwales. Right now I'm still sanding the inside and will hopefully be glassing the inside this weekend. My prospector may not have that much tumblehome anyway, though it does seem to at this point after takimg it off of forms and turning it upright. I guess I need t...

Re: Need clamping idea for feature strip
A friend who makes Trout Landing nets uses rubber inner tubes cut the long way (1 1/2 " wide strips x 3-4 ; lg.) and uses several to hold the different wood strips together and to the inner mold. He overlaps the tag end with the next one and then tapes the last one. Advantage is the glue he use...

Re: how long to extend keelband and fixing it to keel less c
Alick, I built a 16 ft. Peterbourgh, 2006. I added 3/8" Brass Keelband the length of the Stems only. Just screwed it in place with slightly thickened Epoxy (West Sys.105/207). I scuffed it with 60 grit paper prior. The bottom of the hull between the stems has two layers of 6 oz. glass and 4 coa...

Glen, Happy New Year! Hope all's well there in QC! I was surprised the other day at seeing your new picture by your name. I had downloaded it and used it on my computer's background image for a couple of years while I was building the stripper. I have since replaced it with one of my canoe. Funny th...

Looking forward to 2008
I'd like to wish everyone a Prosperious 2008! I launched my first and only stripper, a 16 Ft. Peterborough in July 2006. I had the opportunity to get it in the water last year a few times. It was a real treat to use it. :big grin Still getting the hang of it. Needs some sanding and re-varnishing on ...

Outwale Size
Tim, I'd recommend finished size of 3/4" Sq to start with then angle the bottom outside surface so the outside edge is approx. 1/2" high and the side against the hull is 3/4" high (I did this on the table saw with the blade tilted and then scraped and sanded it to the smoothness I des...

Scarf Joints
Tim, I just finished a 16 ft. Peterborough in July. The Gunnels are White Ash. The wood was roughed at 7/8' x7/8" for the inwales and outwales on the table saw from 8 1/2 ft. lumber. I then cut the scarf joints on the table saw with a jig at 8:1 then glued them in a jig (see picture). Leave you...

Fender Const.
Juneaudave, the fenders are awesome! I have just built a flat bed trailer and need fenders. Was going to buy some ugly sheetmetal ones. I just changed my mind! :smile So, are the sides cedar, plywood or something else? I expect they are "glassed inside and out too? It looks, to me, they are fix...

Loading Stripper?
I need help! I purchased an 8 1/2' truck camper this fall and am looking for a method to load/unload it to the roof of the camper. It's a hard side and is about 9' from the ground to the roof line. I have a ladder on the rear of the camper, but the manufacturer does NOT recommend walking on the roof...

Fish, Thanks for the input. I think the socks are a good idea. Less expensive than what I did. :smile I ran into that sticking problem using Swimming Pool Noodles from Wal-Mart (availaible in lots of wild colors). To make that problem go away I made covers from some leftover Convertable Top Material...

Osprey
Doug, Finally had a chance to look at your pics. GREAT Looking Canoe!! :applause I am really interested in the method you used to do the fancy design on the bottom of the canoe. Is there instructions some where I can go to see how to do that type of work. Also, how'd the Beavers like your busting ov...
