Re: Spindle moulder or router...

A spindle molder is essentially a router on steroids, so I imagine anything you read in the forums pertaining to making strips will still apply ... you just need to take into account that you are using much bigger equipment. Not sure what you are referring to using 1/2" coves and beads ... for ...

Re: Ranger 15 - Mold Question

The way your picture shows is correct for the block and stem. Concerning what you said about the other stations, they flip sides after the centre. So all the ones on the same side of centre as the end you show are on the same side, after you move past the centre they flip to the other side. So when ...

Re: Epoxy sanding

I prefer to just do the hull, no blending, no worries about different looks ... I am all about easy and good looking, lol ... with a roller it takes very little time to go over the hull. When you sand the finish coat go straight to 120 or 150 and just take the shine off (if you have a heavy sanding ...

Re: Epoxy sanding

You are at the sanding stage so you have to push ahead regardless, CanoeCraft says you will likely see the mesh pattern, but you need to be careful not to go to far, that at that point you are very close to the fiberglass. If any of those areas are mesh it will definitely show when you varnish .... ...

Re: Prospector 16 build question

You mentioned you are moving the strongback, which is not great until you have a good start on stripping. I would also check that the strong back itself is still flat and level ... all of your measurements make that assumption, so I would also check that as well (especially if it has been moved). Ji...

Re: Prospector 16 build question

Before you do anything, take a pic (or a few) of your setup and post it .... sometimes words convey what the person thinks, but a pic will give us a better idea of what you have going on.

Focus them on the ares that you think is an issue.

Re: Dry Time for Epifanes varnish?

You cam always do a "nail test" on the varnish .... just pick a bit of an out-of-the -way place and press your finger nail into the varnish, if it doesn't leave a mark, you should be pretty safe to flip.

Re: Dry Time for Epifanes varnish?

I always leave mine a few days, the varnish is dry, but it isn't very hard ... I always worry about wrecking all that work, by putting a new carpet pattern into it.

Finally moving on this project again, just completed the outer fiber glassing, turned out pretty well. I am pretty happy with the contrast of wood tones in general. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/JCyGgI5oTPxgSaW7Xba_YCbVAvaMHHdNzKczRzK-P8SmlaFl8cD2cCAMYgCmyUqpUSLHuj3P6MMvvbkJ1HJvr6_xFw5nicpqSfzfo...

Hi Moriok ... this post is 6 years old and there is a good chance you may not get a direct reply from the author.

If you have a specific question and give us the details, it's pretty assured you will get several responses/opinions from the group.

Re: Sealing the deck underside

I am with you Dirk, it's a lot easier to epoxy them prior to installation. Once the epoxy cures, you can lightly sand the fitted edges (there will always be drips) and the top and bottom, making them ready to be epoxied in place and also ready for varnish. It's a small piece, i would likely sand aft...
