Shin Pad Tape

You know the stuff that hockey players use on thier socks ? I use it all the time in the shop. it's clear and stretchy plastic tape. it's moderately sticky, is made to be removed easily and doesnt leave any residue. However, it sticks very well to itself. epoxy and wood glue dont stick and its great...

I got to go fishing this weekend! It travelled over 100 miles on the 4-wheeler rack over some very rough country. We went in to some "fly -in only" lakes The seats are very comfortable. http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m485/DonsJ/P1000181.jpg http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m485/Don...

Placing a dollar value on your canoe

I'm pricing out a new homeowner's insurance policy and i want to put increased fire and theft coverage on my shop's contents. I've got two canoes that i built, and i need to put some sort of dollar value on them for the insurance co. Has anyone here put a value on thier canoe for this kind of purpose?

Re: ribs

I'm pretty sure Sue was referring to the photo onthe cover of Canoecraft. I think that canoe would have been built with methods that pre-date canvas covered construction. Imagine trying to get a water tight craft just by nailing planks to ribs! Chapter 2 of Canoecraft is a good read for a general de...

Re: ribs

Why couldnt you strip a hull the usual way using waterproof glue, then remove the strongback, leaving the forms in place, then steam the ribs like Patrick's dad did. Next step would be outer gunnels, then epoxy the ribs between the forms and finally remove the forms and install the remaining ribs. T...

Re: Here's what I'm building

I have one question for you: will the stern seat allow proper control of an outboard motor? THe seatbacks fold flat to either operate a motor in the stern, or to face foreward and paddle from the bow seat. another option for slow trolling is to use an electric motor and tighten the steeering screw ...

Re: modify mold distance

Probably not a good idea for your first build. I think length is the biggest single factor in determining a canoe's characteristics. To shorten a design that much , you would need to leave out two or more forms from the centre and probably revise the shape and/or spacing of others. I have a 12' cano...

Re: Here's what I'm building

Hockey playoffs on TV are a good time to cane seats.

I can get one seat or back done during a game if it goes into overtime.

Re: Here's what I'm building

A few more pictures. I think I'm going to add some combing to the deck and a knee will go on next. I still need to flip it over and finish the epoxy because I only did the wet out coat before removing it from the forms to install the transom. Seats are under construction. I've got some time booked o...

Any place that has a decent selection of fishing tackle should have them.

Re: Here's what I'm building

The transom is the same strips as the hull. I used two layers laminated together with a layer of 6oz glass between. It's getting a layer of glass on each side. I'm also adding a knee and quarter knees to brace everything to the gunnels and keel
