Hard Use
I built a Prospector finishing it last winter. Been using it for tripping. 1st trip in shallow water as the hull encountered the stream bed the glass on the inside split from being forced into a convex shape. I put another layer of 6oz inside and out on the critical areas. Next trip with more weight...

Table saw safety
Sluggo,
I use a table the same height as my table saw to support the tail end. You can rig up a support with sawhorses and clamps or a sheet of plywood. This is a safety issue as you have noted. There are a lot of fingers in dustbins when things go wrong. And they usually do.

Columbia River
Sluggo, Enjoyed your blog on boat building. Have a great time on the Columbia. Just try and avoid high water which is most of the month of June and beyond into July. Bugs can also be very bad in July. So pre-flood in May or August and later are best. Of course every year is variable and dependent on...

She's Done 16' Prospector
Well about a year after begining I'm done. A bit of sweat, a fair amount of frustration and a little perseverance. Was it all fun? No. Was it worthwhile? An unequivocal yes. The anticipation prior to the first paddle stroke --- I was like a kid at Christmas. And she paddles like a dream. So I would ...

Ran out of epoxy
OK, so I'm half way through glassing the inside and the pump runs dry on the epoxy tin. I am in the middle of Tibet as far as the civilized world is concerned and cant get materials for at least a day or two. I know this is bad but is there anything I can do to mitigate the situation.

Inwale shaping
I just finished shaping the slots on my inwales a task I found particularly satisfying. A quick test run with some scrap on the router table was ugly and scary so I went to plan B. I clamped the inwales together with the faces to be machined facing each other. I bored holes with a 1/2" forstner...
