Looks gorgeous, Mark. I love the dark trim. What did you use?

That sounds like a good plan to me. Not having to do repairs yet myself, it would be good to hear what others may say.

Re: shaping stems
Very similar to Glen here, except I used a good wood rasp as I didn't have a nice sanding stick like that. A spokeshave works great as you have to do a rolling bevel, and it is easy to do that with.

Re: Top planks lining up?
I had that happen a bit as I got to the football with the strips. I did like Glen said, and trimmed a wee bit off of a strip to bring into perfect alignment. I used these round over tools bought at Lee Valley to shave down the bead. They worked great. http://bearleealive.smugmug.com/Other/Canoe-Buil...

Re: Installing the stems
Roger, are these the inner or outer stems, if in fact you are using both? The only screws I used were on the inner, one on the 1st station mould and into the end of the stem, and one into the stem about 1" above the sheer line (or 1" below while stripping). The first one will have most of ...

Re: Versatile solo canoe- what to choose
Have fun with your build Anders.
You mentions mostly used solo. Would you want a boat that could be used tandem if needed, but be able to solo too, or would you prefer a dedicated solo?

Re: inwale and deck material question
I don't think I would use pine for your intended uses. It is very soft, almost as soft as cedar, and without a layer of glassing would be prone to suffering lots of dings and dents. This damage, though minor, would also affect the finish and waterproofing, necessitating lots of maintenance. Another ...

Another question.
Does one squeegee off the bulk of the excess resin first, or just roll the paper on after spreading and ensuring good saturation?

I'm sure it was said before, but what paper towels did you use. Are they the tough blue shop ones, or just a kitchen type?

Re: Building a canoe outside?
My RO sander is an inexpensive 5" Ridgid, that when hooked up to a vacuum does get rid of the majority of dust, I am guessing at least 75%. I also have a 1,200 CFM dust collector that is ceiling mounted that I bought used for $120. This dust collector probably gets at least 75% of the airborne ...

Re: bead and cove before or after scarfing?
I can see the merits both ways. I never really gave it much thought. I scarfed before milling, as I had allowed to shave a bit off with the planer anyway. I was only scarfing a couple dozen strips where I had to remove knots. Most of the scarfs I do have are really hard to find. http://bearleealive....
