For dowel joints, these self centering jigs take out all the error. Here's a link to one from Woodcraft that's very good, but you can find chealper I think...Self-Centering Jig

sluggo wrote:Awesome, thanks guys. Juneaudave, I think you have the hole sizing/spacing mixed up for some of the cane sizes. ex, 3.00mm would be 1/4" hole spaced at 3/4"?

cheers
Fixed that!!! It's 3.00mm for a 1/4 inch hole spaced at 3/4 inch.

The cane size depends on the hole size and spacing between holes. For a typical canope seat using 1/4 inch holes spaced at 3/4 inch, the medium (3.00mm) plastic from HHPerkins will work great. Have fun...I think you will find weaving your own seats pretty rewarding!!!

I've been messing around some with Dupont Chromaclear on a cedar strip camper/canoe hauler. You can see the results so far at my google site SlumberMAX Camper . There is a section on clear coat that I'm still working on as the build is still a work in progress. Couple thoughts... Unless your set up ...

I've only used Interlux...but I like it alot and it will do a fine job!!! I haven't used Epiphanes, but I am sure it is a great product. In addition to what Glen said...cleanliness in next to godliness when it comes to applying a finish coat...and that will make a great difference in the final appea...

One nice reason to leave it on the strongback is that it is secure, won't rock, and at the proper height for sanding. It won't take long to sand the outside epoxy once you get after it.

My experience with MAS has been that you can be more aggressive applying MAS Slow than West if you are rolling or painting. Bubbles introduced with MAS Slow will (most likely) dissipate before curing...West has a much shorter open time so you need to follow the instructions in CanoeCraft. Bottom lin...

Ya know...the plugs that go into those holes aren't structural. If you ran the drill bit in to clean them out, I think you will be just fine. IMHO..Jneaudave\
