Re: Aligning Stem Molds
Hi Rob You might try screwing a batten to the side of your stem mould to take out the bowing. This could be planed to a slight curve to make it pull the way you want it to or you could put shims on it.It could be screwed on anywhere where it won't conflict with your strips and removed if necessary/po...

Re: bubble in fibreglass
I agree with Cruiser
I had loads of these on my first boat and spent ages injecting them all worked a treat. You have to drill a small hole for the air to come out as well as one to pump the resin in and tape over it when done to stop it coming out till it is set.
Cheers

Re: Outside sanded, ready for fiberglass..a few lessons lear
Hi Grumple I would make this the guide to whether or not you should fill the cracks. 1.If the crack is big enough to go right through to the inside of the hull fill it. 2. if it is only visible on the outside of the hull don't worry about it. If you fill with epoxy and sawdust trying not to put too ...

Re: problem I keep having at varnishing stage.
Hi Randy There is no sign of fish eyes on this hull but I have had them on an earlier one so will take note of your advice about that if I get them again. :applause I think I may have solved it today.I found it was dry this morning although the marks were still visible and decided to go ahead with m...

problem I keep having at varnishing stage.
Hi Folks I am on the varnishing stage of my 12th boat and there are a couple of problems (that I haven't had on all of them) that refuse to go away. Before I start I will just add the following. 1.I have left the resin long enough to dry instructions say 7 days I am on day 14 for the inside and 20 f...

Re: Trimming at shear line Tips
On my latest Peterborough I marked and cut one quarter with a handsaw and then used the off cut after I had smoothed it a little to mark out the others.

Re: Is a 47 year old resin covering removable by heat?
Hi Folks Today I met up with my client for the relaunch of his sailing canoe on Rutland Water and was able to take a few pictures of the finished vessel. He will eventually strip and refinish the inside with a micro-porous paint but for now he has varnished the repairs inside the boat and given the d...

Re: mitering second half of football Tips
Hi Jesse I would say the best tip I could give you for this stage is to take your time.Remember you can always use a strip further in if you cut it too small so don't put them in if they are too short. I use a 0.5mm propelling pencil for my guide mark when fitting the first end (marking about a foot...

Re: The Versatility of the Strongback
Hi Jim Yes I agree. A while ago I made an extra one of the ladder style from Gil Gilpatrick's book because I was asked to make two boats at once.As it turned out I ended up just making one as the customer changed his mind at the last moment. I had the spare strongback top and stored it on a couple o...

Re: Is a 47 year old resin covering removable by heat?
Hi folks Today I did the glassing and am pleased to report I think it went ok. I removed the brass thwart plates and draped the cloth over the hull the night before and went home to check on the weather forecast for the following day as my workshop though insulated is affected by the conditions outs...

Re: Beveling Inwales
Hi Brooks I don't think I have found this a problem with my Peterborough's as I have always done cambered decks so the fact that the top edge of the inwale slopes in doesn't matter as the deck rises up from the joint line.I always fit my inwales before the decks. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...

Re: Is a 47 year old resin covering removable by heat?
Hi Folks She is ready for glassing and I have a question. :thinking Normally when I make my boats from scratch the Gunwales go on over the glass so the cloth can drape down the sides naturally and so easily be layed down. On this boat I will have the old gunwales sticking out.My plan is to push the ...
